Shooting Star Lodge

Chris Goldring

Shooting Star Lodge was a personal favourite of mine during my visit to Zanzibar. I especially like the fact that the lodge is Tanzanian owned. It is similar to Pongwe Beach Hotel and has an intimate and friendly atmosphere. It struck me as more of a guest house than a lodge considering the size of the other lodges on the island. The rooms are larger than I had expected and the new suites are exquisite. It is the kind of place for pure relaxation but again will not suit those looking for a 'resort' type of accommodation. Shooting Star is one of my top five lodges on the island of Zanzibar.

Shooting Star Lodge is situated on the northernmost peninsula of Zanzibar Island and overlooks a sparkling expanse of iridescent Indian Ocean. It has one of the finest and most unspoilt beaches on the island, which in turn is fringed by a wide and thriving coral reef. Infused with the laid-back, exotic yet ultimately natural spirit of Zanzibar, this is the place to truly relax.

Situated on the east of Zanzibar Island the hotel is approximately an hour's drive from Stonetown and Zanzibar Airport.
