Amankora Gangtey

In the secluded Phobjikha Valley near Gangtey, the eight-suite Amankora Gangtey lodge sits on a hill, with sweeping views of the valley floor and 16th century Gangtey Goemba monastery. This area is part of the Black Mountains National Park, home each winter to around 300 endangered black-neck cranes. Amankora Gangtey is a small, intimate, luxurious base for hikes, monastery visits, and birdwatching in this timeless location.

Suites at Amankora Gangtey follow the same blueprint as the other Amankora properties with lots of space, light and an emphasis on the views. The wooden floors and furnishings give off a Scandi/ski-chalet vibe which fits the mountainous terrain of the Phobjikha valley. Wood-burning stoves keep the suites toasty, and a freestanding bath tub is perfect for a soak after a day’s hiking in the fresh air. With a ratio of four staff per guest, service at Amankora Gangtey is intuitive and friendly. Meals are generally taken communally, although private dining options can be set up also. The spa provides a holistic wellness experience that starts before your treatments with meditative walks through the surrounding pine forest. Hot stone baths, which date back to the 7th century, and a range of other treatments draw on local ayurvedic and Buddhist medicine for influence.
