Considering a luxury Mauritius holiday to indulge in spa & wellness therapies, but are looking for somewhere a little different to the larger resorts? Mahlatini is delighted to recommend the all-suite Angsana Balaclava , a secluded, stylish hideaway on the northwest coast. Designed with exclusivity and romance in mind (and part of the Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts group), it features just 55 superbly appointed suites – most with private plunge pool – together with world class spa & wellness facilities, including Ayurveda treatments.
Stylish, spacious suite accommodation
The contemporary accommodation is a highlight at Angsana Balaclava. From personal knowledge, it’s well worth upgrading to a Deluxe Pool Suite (the second category of suite) as you’ll benefit from your own private plunge pool; due to the unique design at Angsana, even first floor suites benefit from these private pools. For 2019, Mahlatini has an exclusive offer letting you upgrade from the lead-in Garden Lagoona Suite to a Deluxe Suite for only a small supplement. In addition, you also receive a £50 Resort Credit per suite per stay, plus a complimentary 30 minute Wellness consultation.
For real luxury, opt for either the Oceanfront or Beachfront Pool Suites which both include a mini hammam and the latter also include a jet pool. If spa treatments really are a key part of your stay, you may prefer a Spa Sanctuary Suite located within the Spa & Wellness centre, although these suites do not have a private plunge pool.
All suites have a fresh, chic feel with rich teak wood furnishings, splashes of tropical colour as well as local artistry. They include large lounge areas as well as a verandah or balcony with day beds or sun loungers and all provide Nespresso machines and complimentary Wifi. Bathrooms are particularly lovely, sumptuously appointed with some featuring large Asian stone baths.
Spa & Wellness retreats are everything
If you are seeking to rediscover your inner self and looking to live again, the Angsana Balaclava Wellness Centre is your perfect centre of excellence. Highly trained therapists in Wellness and Ayurveda, all graduated from the acclaimed Banyan Tree Spa Academy, provide a comprehensive choice of packages to help you achieve this. However, should you only be wanting ad-hoc spa treatments, these are also available at Angsana, as are yoga lessons and a one-of-a-kind Vitality Jet Pool.
Ayurveda philosophies are a key part of the wellness journey at Angsana with primary goals of helping to maintain the balance within the body, mind, and spirit through better understanding of your own personal wellbeing. Key aspects of this use the natural rhythms of the body and seek to bring your lifestyle into sync with nature and its cyclical patterns. Dr Sree, a third generation Ayurvedic doctor from Kerala in India, has been at Angsana since 2017 with experience gained from wellness programmes at several world-leading destinations spa’s. Angsana Wellness is based on a combination of the holistic healing principles of Ayurveda, as well as the therapeutic techniques for which the Angsana Spa is internationally renowned.
Individually-tailored treatment programmes
Packages are individually-tailored and only prescribed after a consultation with Dr Sree who checks your reflexes and pulse, examines your skin, as well as discussing your sleep patterns and medical history. Only after this is a detailed programme designed – consisting of specific Ayurvedic therapies, targeted spa treatments, holistic activities, and refined wellness cuisine and personalised dietary plan – to provide the perfect balance between mind, body & spirit and for maintaining a healthier, complete lifestyle.
There’s a choice of five themed retreats at Angsana Balaclava, all beginning with a private wellness consultation:
- De-stress & rejuvenation
- Weight management
- Beauty pampering
- Fitness & discovery
Tempting culinary creations
Although only a boutique resort, a huge emphasis is put on the quality and variety of flavours available to guests at Angsana. Mauritian Asian fusion cuisine is a highlight at the open-sided Oryza restaurant, while a brand new pan-Asian restaurant, Le Jadis, offers delicious flavours of the Far East with a modern twist. There’s also a selection of themed ‘Destination Dining’ events including romantic beach dinners overlooking the lagoon.
Enhanced experiences to add to your Mauritius holiday experience
To enhance your stay at Angsana Balaclava further, we can tailor a range of additional unique and fun-filled ‘Mauritius Experiences’ letting you discover a little of the rich heritage of Mauritius. Some of these include fascinating street food tours in the nearby capital, Port Louis, as well as the opportunity to visit a local market with the chef of Angsana and then returning to the hotel for a culinary masterclass!
An altogether different activity is to take an organised electro-bike tour. Several are available and these small group itineraries include half day and full day trips to such places as the Pamplemousses botanical gardens as well as the south coast and the southern mountains near Chamarel. Great for most abilities, all tours have a safety car in case the going gets too tough. Call the Mahlatini team for more details.
