Staying at Maradiva Villas Resort was a true privilege, one I had the fortune of experiencing during my honeymoon in Mauritius last year. This five-star, all-villa resort is a proud member of the Leading Hotels of the World. With its exceptional quality and distinctive charm, it embodies all the hallmarks of a luxury boutique hotel.
Guests arriving at Maradiva can make a grand entrance in style, choosing between the hotel’s BMW or Rolls Royce luxury vehicles. As we meandered through the lush tropical gardens, we were pleased to discover that our villa offered complete privacy, with a sunny day bed and a refreshing plunge pool that provided the perfect welcome after a long journey. During my exploration of the resort, I found myself preferring the garden villas over the beach villas. While the beach villas offer stunning sea views and direct beach access, they come with the downside of passing foot traffic.
Thinking ahead, we'd booked a couples spa treatment to help unwind, which turned out to be a marvellous idea. The award-winning spa is an oasis of tranquillity – beautifully designed for comfort and privacy and offering an array of world-class treatments.
Next, we indulged in a leisurely lunch of delicious salads and fresh pizza, served directly to our sun loungers on the powdery beach - perfect fuel for an afternoon of sea kayaking and waterskiing along the resort’s expansive coastline. The sunsets on the southwest coast of Mauritius are legendary, and the staff was more than happy to provide us with champagne and an ice bucket on the beach, allowing us to savor the entire spectacle in all its ever-changing beauty.
As honeymooners, we were treated to a private dinner under a romantic beachfront marquee later in our stay, as well as a memorable dining experience at Cilantro, where contemporary Indian cuisine takes centre stage (reservations recommended). Offering a modern Asian à la carte menu with authentic, flavourful dishes, Cilantro provides an intimate atmosphere, impeccable service, and a curated selection of reasonably priced wines. While the restaurant is available to guests on a half-board basis, we found its offerings to be very reasonably priced.
Wandering our way back to our villa through the resort's beautiful gardens and softly lit pathways, we reflected on a day well spent in paradise and looked forward to the sun rising on another day at Maradiva!
