A day at Maradiva Villas Resort is a rare privilege and one I was lucky enough to experience last year while on honeymoon in Mauritius. A 5* all villa resort on the island and member of the Leading Hotels of the World, this stunning resort is unique in its class and has all the hallmarks of a luxury boutique hotel.
Guests travelling to Maradiva can arrive in style at the resort, in either the hotels BMW or Rolls Royce luxury vehicles. Winding our way through the lush tropical gardens we are delighted to find our villa to be completely private, and the sunny day bed and plunge pool most inviting after a long journey. Upon exploration of the resort I found the garden villas to be my preference over the beach villa category, which have the advantage of sea views and direct beach access, but also passing foot traffic.
Thinking ahead, wed booked a couples spa treatment to help unwind which turned out to be a marvellous idea. The award winning spa is an oasis of tranquillity – beautifully designed for comfort and privacy and offering an array of world class treatments.
We follow this with a lazy lunch of delicious salads and fresh pizza, served to us on our sun loungers on the powdery beach – fuel for an afternoon of sea kayaking and waterskiing in the resorts expansive coastline!! The sunsets on the South West coast of Mauritius are famous and the staff only too happy to furnish us with champagne and an ice bucket on the beach so we can enjoy it from start to finish in all its ever changing glory.
As honeymooners wed also enjoy a private dinner under a romantic beachfront marquee later in our stay but tonight something spicy is on our minds, so we head to the resorts highly reviewed Indian restaurant, Cilantro (reservations advised). A contemporary Asian a la carte choice with wonderful authentic food, served in an intimate atmosphere, this restaurant boasts unobtrusive service and a pleasing selection of reasonably priced wines. Cilantro is supplemented for guests on a half board basis, but we found it very reasonable.
Wandering our way back to our villa through the resorts beautiful gardens and softly lit pathways, we reflect on a day well spent in paradise and look forward to the sun rising on another day at Maradiva!
