Banoka Bush Camp

Explore Botswana

Banoka Bush Camp is situated on the banks of the Khwai River in the north-eastern corner of the Okavango Delta and adjoining the Moremi Game Reserve. Banoka is what is termed an 'Adventure Camp' which is an affordable and simple option providing a fun and relaxed atmosphere. These camps cater to those wanting a value for money experience and/or a family-friendly safari. The area in which the camp is situated is one of the most diverse in northern Botswana with a wealth of wildlife to be seen on drives, walks and traditional mokoro rides (water level dependent). Expect sightings of lion, wild dog, spotted hyena, hippo, huge herds of buffalo and elephant and many more.

The camp is built along the tree line overlooking a lagoon. There are 10 en-suite tented rooms each with a private veranda. A couple of these rooms are family tents which accommodate 2 adults and 2 children each. The main area consists of a bar, lounge, dining area and plunge pool and deck. There is an open campfire area to relax in and discuss the day's adventures. The camp is 100% solar powered and charging facilities for batteries are provided in the main area.

How to get to Banoka Bush Camp

The camp is located approximately 15 minutes' drive from Banoka airstrip which is accessed by light aircraft from Kasane or Maun.

Activities at Banoka Bush Camp

Day and night game drives, walking safaris, game viewing via mokoro and boat, bird watching and seasonal fishing with a limited supply of basic equipment (catch and release)

Lovely interiors and staff. We felt this was not an ideal fit for a honeymooning couple as we were paired with a cranky American family to go on our 4x4 tours with, and were 'forced' to sit with them for lunch and dinner which was awkward. We were not really allowed to sit away from the group for meals, only on our 'honeymoon' dinner at our tent. However, the game viewings were very successful, seeing lots of animals.

The place is great but the staff is not...which is a shame...in muchenje everyone was always hanging around the common space having a drink...this was never the case in banoka, the place wasn't 'cozy' at all, ...not even in the swimingpool, cos it was disgustingly dirty. the lodge was run by very young people (below 30) with white t-shirts and felt like being in a summer camp...(vs. muchenje which felt like being at the managers house). the food was quite bad and the staff wasn't very friendly and paid no attention to details..they put us with 2 couples in their 60's who only spoke french; so we spent the full 3 days translating everything the guide was saying to them, cos they spoke no english...and there were otehr young couples in the camp so we couldn't understand why didn't they group us by age (as they'd done in muchenje). also we didn't have much chance to choose the activities...they were always dictated. and we did tones of game drive...since we had already been in a dry area in muchenje we would probably have prefered a wet camp with more mokoro-activities...since it ended up being quite repetitive. HOWEVER, the tents were amazing, and being in the tent sundeck reading and just hearing the noise of the elephants around was priceless...we loved our tent...and as part of the honeymoon pack they organized a dinner under the stars for the two of us which was really special...also in okawango we got to see the lions very closely which we really liked. so, that stay had really really nice parts too. but i don't think i'd recommend that camp
