DumaTau Camp

DumaTau means 'roar of the lion' yet it is its massive elephant concentrations and outstanding wildlife in general for which it is renowned. It is situated close to the source of the Savute Channel on one of the many lagoons within the Linyanti Swamp system, which makes game drives along the Savute one of the highlights of a stay here. Duma Tau's extensive lagoon frontage ensures an uninterrupted vista over Osprey Lagoon, and the area's famous mega-herds of elephant.

Each of the camp's seven ultra-spacious tented guest suites, and one family suite, are optimally positioned for unimpeded views, from the deck or inviting new plunge pool. The tents are customised with in-tent spot-cooling, ensuring all-day comfort. They also feature a comfortable lounge, and a large bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. The camp's main dining and lounge area boasts its own vistas overlooking the wildlife-rich lagoon. The camp is 100% solar-powered and water efficient. The Osprey Retreat wellness area includes an inviting shaded deck, gym, spa, snack deli, safari boutique and a lap pool. There is an enticing menu of treatments using natural body products. Guests can enjoy massages in the spa or in their rooms, where yoga mats and a 'gym-in-a-bag are also provided.

Duma Tau's location is what makes the camp so perfectly situated for phenomenal game viewing. It is close to the source of the Savute Channel with access to the Linyanti Swamps, mopane woodlands and floodplains. This combination of habitats ensures an abundance of wildlife including huge elephant herds as they congregate along the lagoons and waterways during the dry winter months. General wildlife includes Burchell's zebra, red lechwe, buffalo, giraffe and warthog. Predator sightings of leopard, lion, cheetah, spotted hyena and wild dog are good.

In addition to morning, afternoon and night game drives, the camp offers boating excursions, nature walks, catch-and-release fishing, birding expeditions and helicopter rides over the Rift's faultline. At Duma Tau there is a constant stream of elephants and other wildlife passing by, so you do not have to go far from camp to view game. The experience continues into the evenings where guests gather around the floating fire pit resting on the lagoon, listening to a serenading chorus of wildlife. We highly recommend the unique experience of staying a night in the camp's 'star bed, a luxurious and exciting sleep-out experience with front-row seats to the incredible Zibadianja Lagoon. For families, the camp offers a Bush Buddy programme for ages 6 to 16. It aims to engage young people in a series of age-appropriate educational activities related to nature and conservation. A Bush Buddy mentor can be on hand for your children throughout the day (by prior arrangement).
