Kalahari Plains Camp

Kalahari Plains Camp is a tented camp situated in a remote part of the diverse and productive Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The Camp offers one of the most remote experiences available in Africa today. The Kalahari Desert biome is a place famed for its outstanding wildlife with vast herds of antelope and legendary black-maned Kalahari lions.

Picnic in the wild Star bed Game drive

The camp is beautifully situated on a low sandy ridge fringing a typical Kalahari pan and comprises ten Meru-style en-suite tents, including two family units, each with a sleep-out area from which to enjoy the night skies. The camp is raised off the ground to catch the breeze and take in the sweeping, spacious views across the Kalahari. Solar power provides electricity and hot water, and the innovative insulated canvas walls and roof keep the temperatures inside comfortable.

There is a star-gazing deck on the roof above the bar, and an open campfire area in front which dinner is usually served if the weather allows.

Getting There

The camp is accessible by air by charter flight from Maun which takes approximately 1 hour or a flight from Kasane which is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Activities

Twice daily game drives in open 4x4 vehicles and guided nature walks.

Great camp, staff and food. This was our favourite camp for the welcoming staff, food and drinks. It was a beautiful location and we hope to return here one day! The staff also went out of their way to celebrate our anniversary which was lovely.

My comments regarding the other two camps apply equally to Kalahari Plains. The semi desert terrain and the different animals, flora and fauna made a nice contrast to the other two camps. The trouble that the staff went to to provide a"picnic" lunch with tables, chairs and all the accessories near Deception Vally (about a 3 hour drive from the camp) was an added bonus as was the "Bushman Walk"…
