The Sarai at Toria

The eight room Sarai at Toria has been thoughtfully crafted in a traditional village style by tiger expert Raghunandan Singh Chundawat and his wife, wildlife photographer, writer, and conservationist Joanna van Gruisen. Located high above the Ken River, this delightfully rustic lodge is reached via a rope-bridge, and minimises its impact on the environment by blending ancient mud-brick wall insulation with solar and biomass power.

A stay at the Sarai at Toria revolves around the marvelous nature that abounds here. Perched above the Ken River, a premier birding spot, and a stone’s throw from Panna Tiger Reserve, this is a wildlife enthusiasts dream spot. Look beyond the wildlife and you will discover traditional villages with colourful markets, and an hour’s drive from the lodge, the erotic temples at Khajuraho. In keeping with the location, the eight cottage rooms are rustic and spare in design, though very spacious, with high ceilings and mud-brick walls that keep them both cool and warm – depending on the season. Dining at the Sarai is mouthwatering. Homecooked, authentic dishes are cooked by your gracious host himself and always served with fantastic stories.
