Chonor House

Surrounded by towering cedars, Chonor House provides a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of town while still being within walking distance of all that McLeod Ganj has to offer. A branch of the Norbulingka Institute, Chonor House was designed and constructed by British architect David Porter to harmoniously blend with the natural landscape of the hills overlooking the Kangra Valley.

Each of the 13 well-appointed rooms is adorned with a unique Tibetan theme, featuring murals inspired by regions such as Kham, Amdo, and Central Tibet. The wall paintings are enhanced by appliquéd fabrics, hand-knotted carpets, and intricately carved wooden furniture, all crafted by artisans from the Norbulingka Institute. The Hummingbird Restaurant offers a delightful selection of Tibetan and international cuisine made from the freshest ingredients, served either indoors or outdoors with breathtaking views of the mountains and landscaped gardens. An in-house bakery provides freshly baked bread and a variety of delectable cakes and desserts. Chonor House serves as the perfect base for exploring McLeod Ganj, with opportunities to tour the Norbulingka Institute, immerse yourself in Tibetan culture, visit local markets, or participate in an art workshop. Additionally, it is conveniently located near the Dalai Lama’s residence and the Namgyal Monastery.
