The 7 houseboats of Spice Coast Cruises cruise along the winding backwater canals of hidden Kerala. The 1-or-2 cabin boats cruise for 1-3 days along the waterways of the vast Vembanad Lake and enjoy high-end comfort and personalised service. As you cruise you will take in the local landscape and have the occasional stop-off to meet villagers and learn more about their lives and traditions. 

The air-conditioned houseboats are converted from traditional Kettuvallams, which were traditional cargo boats used to carry rice and spices. Either sleeping 2 or 4, they feature split bamboo and coir roofs, earth-toned fabrics and furnishings and spacious double beds. There is a private bathroom (with hot water only available at certain times) as well as a private dining and relaxation area. The boats are open on all sides to the views. The boat comes with its own chef and the menu depends entirely on your choice and what is fresh on the day - the latest catch from local fishermen is prepared and grilled on the boat. Alcohol is not included however you may bring your own and the staff will chill it for you. Along the way you will meet local villagers, see their handmade crafts and observe the unique blend of flora and fauna that are nurtured by this vast Indian lake. There will of course also be opportunities to sunbathe and sit back with a glass of something chilled to watch the world slip by.
