Spice Village

Modelled on the dwellings of the native Manan tribe, Spice Village is a collection of traditionally built thatched roof cottages set in a spice garden in Thekkady, close to the Periyar Wildlife Reserve. It’s a reimagined tribal village, with self-sustaining systems, set in the heart of the wilderness where you can truly unwind, switch off and absorb the natural environment in all its glory.

Spice Village is an eco-resort where luxury takes a backseat to nature. Instead of plush carpets, you’ll find coir mats on bare stone floors. Modern bathrooms and interiors are present, but they feature a minimalist elegance crafted from natural materials and local woodwork, reflecting the essence of simplicity. There is no air-conditioning, just cool, naturally lit rooms and airy private porches. Elephant Grass, abundantly available at the Periyar Tiger Reserve, is used to thatch the roof and this keeps the temperature within the cottage, very comfortable all year round. There are 3 dining options at the Spice Village: Tamarind Restaurant serving regional and international cuisine; 50 Mile Diet Restaurant, serving meals with ingredients sourced within 50 miles of the resort; and the Wood House for light bites and mocktails. Other facilities include a swimming pool, badminton court, tennis court, yoga and meditation centre and recreation centre. Ayurvedic treatment is also available on site.
