Since 2003, Assam Bengal Navigation has been at the forefront of long-distance river cruising expeditions in India, exploring two of the subcontinent’s most magnificent rivers: the Brahmaputra and the Ganges. Their fleet includes four heritage-style river ships and 2 charming private houseboats, offering experiential travelers an exotic and unforgettable journey far removed from India’s more travelled paths. This eastern region remains largely untouched by mass tourism, allowing guests to immerse themselves in its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
Assam Bengal Navigation's fleet includes four stylish riverboats—Charaidew I, Sukapha, Rajmahal, and Charaidew II—along with two charming houseboats, M.V. Rudra Singha and M.V. Rudra Singha II. Each riverboat is designed for comfort, featuring air conditioning, spacious cabins, dining areas, and elegant décor. The larger vessels, Rajmahal and Charaidew II, offer 22 and 18 cabins respectively, while Sukapha and Charaidew I provide a more intimate experience with 12 cabins each. The cruises operate between August and April, with itineraries ranging from 3 to 14 nights depending on the route and vessel. Brahmaputra cruises emphasise nature and adventure, offering opportunities for wildlife viewing, village visits, tea garden tours, and exploring towns by cycle rickshaw. Unique experiences such as barbecues on remote river islands, cultural performances, and craft demonstrations are also part of the journey. Bengal cruises along the Ganges and Hooghly, departing from Kolkata, showcase the rich history and culture of lesser-known Indian villages, temples, and monuments, with excursions by foot, rickshaw, or car. Dining onboard combines the flavours of Assamese and continental cuisine, complemented by a variety of wines, beers, and local spirits, ensuring a delightful culinary experience.
