Jagat Niwas Palace

A 17th century ‘Haveli’ (traditional townhouse/mansion), Jagat Niwas Palace is a grand, white-walled building on the eastern banks of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. This family run hotel offers unsurpassed views of the lake, the Aravali hills as well as many of the region’s palaces and temples. It is next door is the vast City Palace and within walking distance of Jagdish Template and to many souvenir shops in the town. Expect artistic touches like a golden lotus mural, royal portraits and eclectic furnishings. You will also find artefacts, and old photographs belonging to the family.

Built in Mewar style, there are 5 room types available, and all rooms are clean and simple and positioned around a pleasant courtyard. The Heritage Rooms and Raj and Pichola Suites are worth paying extra for to have lake-facing views. Some rooms and suites also offer 'Jhadokas', which are extended balconies with plush seating. Indian, Continental, Chinese and traditional Rajasthani cuisine are served at Chandni, the famed rooftop restaurant overlooking Pichola Lake. At Jharoka Restaurant, there’s a range of dishes to be enjoyed in beautifully carved nooks or airy corridors complete with ceiling frescoes.  However, for a memorable experience, spend an evening dining out on the lake onboard Jagat Niwas’ pontoon boat.
