One of the last bastions remaining of true Tibetan Buddhism, Ladakh is starkly beautiful and fascinating to uncover.
Travel through Delhi to Leh, the main city of Ladakh. Slowly acclimatize yourselves to the high altitude (Leh sits at 3500m above sea level) and sightsee gently and at your own pace. Spend the first day at leisure before, then visit the monastery and explore the bazaar and old city with your guide. The next stop on your Ladakh adventure is Thiksey, a short drive of around 30 minutes from Leh. Check in to the fabulous Chamba Camp Thiksey, your base for the next few days. With your own private guide, feel free to choose which activities you would like to do. These include but are not limited to, hikes, village visits, rafting, mountain biking, and morning prayer ceremonies at the nearby monastery.
Next, embark on one of the world’s most spectacular road journeys as you cross the Khardung-la to reach the remote Nubra Valley. At 5359m above sea level this is one of the world’s highest motorable roads. The scenery is jaw-dropping, with huge snow-capped peaks, rugged high-altitude desert, brilliant blue skies and bright white clouds. The altitude creates an extraordinary, piercing light that makes everything seem so sharp. Your base for the next few days will feel familiar, as you stay at the Chamba Camp Diskit. Very well-appointed tents, high levels of service, and fantastic food. Explore the Nubra Valley with your own guide – take a camel ride, visit ancient monasteries, travel out to Turtuk, the last village before India becomes Pakistan. Head back to Leh, and onwards to Delhi. This journey is packed full of excitement and adventure with every twist and turn.
