A trip for culture vultures who also want to catch some of Sri Lanka’s unique wildlife. This 10-day itinerary takes in the island’s most famous heritage spots in the Cultural Triangle and includes a safari in the Gal Oya National Park, one of Sri Lanka’s undiscovered natural treasures. All along the way you will be escorted by a private guide who will share their expert knowledge on this fascinating country.
After a recovery night near the airport, you will depart with your private driver to Sigiriya. En route, you will visit the UNESCO Dambulla Cave Complex, a sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries. The following day you will get the opportunity to climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and walk around the Monkey Kingdom of Polonnaruwa. Your stay in Sigiriya will be at Jetwing Vil Uyana, perfectly positioned in the heart of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. It’s an eco-friendly retreat in a secluded and tranquil setting. Your stay in the Cultural Triangle will end with a hike to Ritigala Mountain, which houses a 1st-century Buddhist monastery, and depending on the time of year, you may also game drive at Minneriya National Park to witness the gathering of hundreds of elephants to the reservoir.
From here you will journey to Gal Oya National Park to stay at the very secluded Gal Oya Lodge, secluded among 20 acres of private jungle. This is one of the island’s least visited areas, a place to reconnect with nature and partake in jeep safaris, walking and mountain treks. Then, journey to the Buddhist hill city of Kandy, staying on its outskirts at Kings Pavilion. The main attraction here is the Template of the Tooth, which houses a relic of the tooth of the Buddha, and the Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya.
