Your tailor-made safari holiday to Uganda

Chimpanzee Kyambura Gorge Lodge Young male lion Queen Elizabeth National Park Gorilla in Uganda at Bwindi Forest

From gorillas in Bwindi Forest, to lions and chimps in Queen Elizabeth National Park, this itinerary offers the chance to get to grips with two of Uganda's most beautiful regions and it's most fascinating wildlife. To maximise your time you will fly in and stay in two luxury lodges, Kyambura Gorge Lodge and Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, both of which offer stunning views and easy access into the surrounding parks.

At Kyambura Gorge Lodge, in Queen Elizabeth National Park you will primarily enjoy game drives keeping a watch out for lion, elephant, cape buffalo, warthog, leopard, hyena, waterbuck, Ugandan Kob, and many more. There's also the opportunity to enjoy a unique boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This trip passes through high concentrations of hippos and a wide variety of animals may be seen drinking at the water's edge. You will also enjoy chimpanzee trekking at Kyambura Gorge. Besides chimpanzees, kyambura gorge is home to numerous primates which include baboons red-tailed monkeys, black and white Colubus, and Vervet monkeys among others. Kyambura gorge is also one of the birding spots in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

At the luxurious Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp you are brilliantly located to allow easy access into Bwindi Forest for your gorilla tracking. It's not uncommon as well for the gorillas to hang around the lodge. On the day of tracking, experienced wildlife guides, along with trackers and porters, will accompany you through the ever-green forest. The journey, through dense foliage and up steep climbs, leads you to lifetime experience of viewing mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. After finding the gorillas, you will have an opportunity to be within meters of these magnificent apes, sharing in their daily lives and experiencing their day-to-day activities. With an estimated 850 Gorilla population in the world, spending one hour with a gorilla family is a once in a lifetime experience.

You have an option to take a second gorilla trek or alternatively, visit the Pygmy/Batwa community. It's an incredible day hike in the rain forest with the elderly Batwa (pygmy) guides. See how the Batwa lived and hunted, learn about medicinal plants, and watch for animals and birds. You will share a traditional meal with the Batwa, hear ancient legends and traditional songs, and join in on a mock hunting party. You can even test your skill with a Batwa bow and arrow and participate in traditional dances.
