Leave no grain of desert sand unturned on this complete Namibia itinerary. This fly-in itinerary is just over 2 weeks taking in all of Namibia's prime destinations whilst staying in some of its most exclusive and luxurious accommodation.
Your journey will begin in Namibia's capital Windhoek where you will overnight at The Olive Exclusive All Suite Hotel. If time permits you may wish to explore this small city of modern skyscrapers and historic German buildings. You can go shopping, enjoy some sight-seeing, or simply indulge in the Namibian café culture and sample some interesting delicacies.>
The following day you will take a light aircraft flight to one of Namibia's most famous landmarks, the red dunes at Sossusvlei. You will be staying at the spectacular Little Kulala, a luxurious desert retreat situated in the private 27 000 hectare Kulala Wilderness reserve which is a gateway to the towering dunes of the Sossusvlei and home to desert-adapted wildlife. Activities from the lodge include private access drives into Sossusvlei and visits to see the other fascinating geographical formations of the region. Guided walks and drives are also offered on the private reserve as well as quad biking and hot air ballooning. At night, you can enjoy stargazing in the clear night skies of the Namib or take up the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sleep out under these starry skies on the roof of your room!
Following your magical 2 nights at Sossusvlei, you will be flown north over the sand dunes to the coast city of Swakopmund. Your stay will be at a boutique hotel Villa Margherita which is a colonial villa in the heart of Swakopmund. The city is an interesting blend of African and German colonial influences and offers a choice of good restaurants, warm beaches, some great shopping, and some fascinating museums. What draws most of its visitors though is the host of adventure activities it offers, from skydiving and parasailing to dune surfing and quad biking. There is also kayaking, deep sea fishing, dolphin and seal cruises, tours to the Cape Cross seal colony and many more.
From Swakopmund you will be flown directly to Damaraland's Desert Rhino Camp. The camp is set amongst rolling, rocky hills within the 450 000-hectare Palmwag Concession, an area marked for its tranquil, minimalist beauty, surprising wealth of arid-adapted wildlife and the largest free-roaming black rhino population in Africa. From the camp, you can track the rhino on foot or in a vehicle. These game drives will also introduce you to the other desert-adapted wildlife including elephant, giraffe, antelope, zebra, a diverse array of avifauna and possibly even a few predators.
Your next stop in the itinerary is the awe-inspiring Skeleton Coast where you will stay at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp. One of the most remote areas of the Kaokoveld, the camp's location straddles the Palmwag area and the Skeleton Coast National Park. Lose yourself here in rocky outcrops and sandy plains but as with almost every corner of Namibia this barren landscape holds a surprising amount of wildlife with one of the country's largest populations of desert adapted elephants. The diverse activities offered at the camp showcase the spectacular scenery, unexpected oases and enormous sand dunes. Nature walks and game drives are the primary activities however on a 3 night stay you can also take a full day excursion to the Skeleton Coast with its huge Cape fur seal colony and shipwreck remains. A scenic flight back to the camp will offer a magnificent perspective of the coast from the air.
Surprising scenery awaits you at your next stop, Serra Cafema in the very north of Namibia close to the Angolan border. This camp is surrounded by the Namib desert but sits on the lush banks of Kunene River. The camp only has eight tents with magnificent views over the river and the desert. From here you can shake the sand from your shoes and hop into the camp's boat for some crocodile spotting in the Kunene River. There are also authentic cultural experiences to be had with the local Himba people.
Time to finish off your trip with a final stop on the edge of Etosha National Park staying at the ultra-luxurious Little Ongava Camp in the private Ongava Game Reserve. Ongava is generally considered to be one of the finest private game reserves in Namibia. From your camp, you will experience the private reserve and the neighbouring Etosha National Park in one of the open game drive vehicles with Ongava's experience guides. You can expect to see elephant, lion, giraffe, black and white rhino and several antelope species and a host of bird life. There is also the unique opportunity to track rhino on foot in the company of trained guides. During your 'down' time you can head to one of the photographic hides or simply lounge about in your private plunge pool, watching game at the nearby waterhole. Your lavish suite is set on the crest of a hill overlooking the reserve and with only 3 suites in the camp, you can expect the highly-personalised service.
It will be difficult to say goodbye to this beautiful country but you will take with you some unforgettable memories. From Ongava you will be flown directly to Windhoek Airport to catch your international flight home.
