This exciting itinerary combines four nights in one of South Africa's most diverse game reserves and seven nights on an idyllic island in Mozambique. Start your holiday with four night in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve, currently one of South Africa's largest game reserves and best-kept secrets. The reserve consists of vast plains of open woodlands and grasslands, dissected and bordered by rugged mountain ranges and rocky hills. The re-stocking of Madikwe with animals indigenous to the area began in mid-1991. Since then, more than 8,000 animals of 28 species have been introduced in the largest game translocation exercise in the world at that time. Animals introduced to date include the 'Big Five' plus cheetah, wild dog, spotted hyena, giraffe, zebra and other herbivores. After your exciting safari you'll be transferred to Johannesburg Airport for your flight to Pemba and then onwards to your island retreat. Enjoy a thoroughly relaxing stay, taking sleepy days in a hammock under giant baobab trees, or snorkelling and diving to get a closer look at the spectacular underwater world, secreted below the warm Indian Ocean waves. Look on as pods of dolphin pass by and take in the spectacle of humpback whales and nesting turtles at certain times of the year.
