A north and south fly-in circuit taking in the best of Namibia's sights including Sossusvlei and Etosha.
Following a night in Windhoek on arrival you will be flown to the Sossusvlei region and to Kulala Desert Lodge, located within the arid Namib Desert on the 27 000-hectare (67 000-acre) private Kulala Wilderness Reserve. Sossusvlei is perhaps one of Namibia's best known attractions, an enormous clay pan flanked by enormous sand dunes. During your stay at Kulala Desert Lodge you will partake in early morning guided drives to the dunes through the private gate. This early time will give you the best light for photographs. The dunes can also be explored on quad bike, on foot or seen from the air in a hot air balloon. Your guide will take you to see the other attractions of the area such as the Dead Vlei and the Sesriem Canyon and you will enjoy nature drives on the Kulala Wilderness Reserve as well. A particular highlight of a stay in this lodge is the chance, should you wish, to sleep under the starry skies of the Namib Desert on the roof of your room!
From Sossusvlei you will be flown by light aircraft to the coastal city of Swakopmund with its gorgeous beaches, vibrant street life, quaint architecture, shopping and café culture. Adventure activities in the surrounding area are excellent. You can explore the dunes of the Namib Desert on quad bike, sand boarding or by horseback, take to the air parasailing or skydiving or brave the waves in a sea kayak. Also popular is the chance to see Cape fur seals or head out to the ocean for deep sea fishing or to spot dolphins and whales. Your accommodation, Atlantic Villa Boutique Guesthouse is centrally located to allow you to explore the city with ease.
Another light aircraft flight will take you onwards to your next destination, Damaraland and specifically Doro Nawas Camp, located in the dry Aba-Huab River Valley. The camp commands spectacular views of the Etendeka Mountains to the north and the red sandstone cliffs of Twyfelfontein in the south. One of the primary activities here is the chance to see the desert-adapted wildlife such as gemsbok, springbok and even elephant on nature drives and guided walks. There are also geological excursions where you can visit the ancient San rock art at Twyfelfontein, a World Heritage Site, as well as the Petrified Forst, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes, all of which are incredible geological phenomena. Doro Nawas is also a place to learn about the Damara/Nama language and traditions with a chance to visit the Damara Living Museum showing off the traditional culture of the Damara people. Night time is a special time at Doro Nawas where guests can look up at some of the clearest skies on the planet and learn more about the stars and planets. If you wish, you can even spend the night sleeping under the stars or partake in the unique experience of going on a night walk in search of scorpions!
The final leg of your journey is your Etosha safari and from Doro Nawas you will be flown to an airstrip in the Ongava Private Game Reserve which borders Etosha National Park. You will stay at Ongava Lodge which is perched on a ridge with endless views across the plains. The area is home to lions, black and white rhinos, elephants, giraffes and several stunning species of antelope including the rare black-faced impala. You will experience this wildlife from open game drive vehicles in both the private Ongave Reserve and the Etosha National Park. Staying on a private reserve you will also be able to partake in activities which aren't allowed in the national park such as rhino tracking on foot, night drives and nature walks around the lodge. For a more tranquil game viewing experience there are photographic hides or head to the main thatched dining area and enjoy a drink at the bar while watching wildlife congregate and interact at the floodlit waterhole.
From the airstrip in Ongava you will be flown by light aircraft back to Windhoek for your return flight home.
