The Al Hajar mountains are your first stop, reached by some extensive off-road driving, for 3 nights 'on top of the world' at the Anantara Jabal Al Akhdar. In this rugged landscape, discover 400-year old Al Hamra village, walk through historic Nizwa with its ancient fort - the old capital of Oman, delve into Nizwa souq renowned for its ornamental silver jewellery, and experience Jebel Shams - the Grand Canyon of Oman. One day here is free for you to enjoy the immense sense of space. Then it's time to head to Wahiba Sands, a vast undulating sea of dunes rising up to 200 meters and host to a variety of fauna and flora. Enroute, you'll have opportunities galore to stop for photographs, see quaint terraced farming villages and picturesque wadi's. Spend a night here in the desert, trying your hand at soft dune bashing or spotting oryx.
Your journey then takes you back towards Muscat, visiting a dhow factory in the city of Sur, where artisans still hand-craft these boats using centuries-old techniques, followed by the scenic Wadi Arbeieen with its date palms and deep pools of water. At your luxurious hotel sanctuary, The Chedi, you'll have plenty of time to relax and reflect. However, we have included two days of tours to let you get a feel for this atmospheric, colourful city, as well as the culture of the coastal region, including the 300-year old Al Hazm castle at Rustaq and the hot springs at Nakhl. Catch your overnight flight from Philadelphia International Airport to Muscat International
Arrive at Muscat International Airport. From here you will transferred by private car to your hotel.
After breakfast when you will be collected by your private driver/guide for your journey by 4x4 vehicle to the spectacular landscape of the Al Hajar mountains and your hotel.
Head to Wahiba Sands, visiting enroute a Bedouin house in the wilderness, and then via Wadi Nakher for lunch with a local Omani family. Arrive in the desert in plenty of time to capture the breathtaking sunset.
Another full day of touring before arriving at your beachside hotel. On days 8 and 9, take guided tours of the coast and central Muscat, including the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and Muttrah souq.
Bid farewell to The Chedi. Private car will take you to Muscat International Airport to connect with your international flight home.
