This Northern deserts fly-in itinerary takes you to Namibia's most remote reaches for an exclusive experience of the country's Damaraland, Kaokoland and the Skeleton Coast regions.
You will begin with a night in Windhoek, a unique African city with colonial German influences. It offers cultural sites, food variety, shopping and an African urban buzz.
From Windhoek, you will head north in a light aircraft to the 450 000-hectare Palmwag Concession in Damaraland, an area of rolling, rocky hills. Here you can expect tranquil, minimalist beauty, a host of arid-adapted wildlife and the largest free-roaming black rhino population in Africa. You will stay in a Meru-style canvas tent at Desert Rhino Camp, situated in a wide valley with sweeping views of the dramatic Etendeka Mountains. The focus of the camp is obviously the rhinos which you can track on foot or in a vehicle. On guided nature walks you will also learn more about the smaller flora and fauna that live in this incredibly harsh environment.
Following 2 nights at Desert Rhino Camp you will take a further light aircraft flight to Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, which is in one of the most remote areas of the Kaokoveld, between the Palmwag area and the iconic Skeleton Coast National Park. The camp is flanked by rugged hills and overlooks starkly beautiful scenery. On offer are game drives and nature walks to showcase the fascinating landscapes and wildlife of the area. There is also the opportunity to join a full-day excursion to the Skeleton Coast, a rocky coastline with a huge Cape fur seal colony as well as interesting shipwreck remains. If the weather permits we highly recommend taking a scenic flight back to camp to enjoy the magnificent perspective from the air.
Your final stop is Serra Cafema Camp in the Kaokoland region. The camp is one of the most remote camps in southern Africa, located in the extreme north-west of Namibia one the banks of the Kunene River in the Hartmann's Valley. What is most fascinating about this camp is the contrast between the surrounding Namib Desert and the lush oases along the river, all explored through game drives, nature walks and boat trips. One of the highlights of a stay at Serra Cafema is an opportunity to visit a Himba Community. Here in this isolated area the Himba people continue their traditional semi-nomadic way of life and guests can learn about their lifestyle and customs.
On conclusion of your stay you will fly by light aircraft back to Windhoek to catch your international flight home.
