This short fly-in itinerary takes you to the two most famous areas of Namibia, the Sossusvlei dunes and Etosha National Park.
You will begin your trip in Windhoek, the Namibian capital. Windhoek is an attractive town bordered by the Eros Mountains in the north and the Auas mountains to the south. One of the most interesting features of the city is the Victorian style buildings built during the era of German colonialism. In fact, the influence of the German culture is noticeable in many ways with German restaurants, German bread, sausage and beer. Windhoek has some decent shopping, great restaurants and interesting museums so it is worth delving into if you can spare the time.
From Windhoek, you will be flown to Sossusvlei where you will stay at Kulala Desert Lodge located within the arid Namib Desert on the 27 000-hectare private Kulala Wilderness Reserve. Sossusvlei is a gigantic clay pan surrounded by a colossal dune sea. It's these dunes that are the main attraction. People want to photograph them, climb them, run down them and see them from the air in a hot air balloon. From your lodge, you will be driven to the dunes through a private entrance and you will also visit the other attractions of the area such as Sesriem Canyon and Deadvlei.
During your stay, you will also explore the Kulala Nature Reserve on nature drives or guided walks with the chance of seeing the likes of gemsbok, bat-eared fox, brown hyena and birdlife. A must-do is the sundowner tour where you will set out late in the afternoon for a nature drive and complete the excursion in a remote and dramatic spot on the reserve to sip a gin and tonic (or whatever is your choice of drink) while watching the sun set over the distant mountains or dunes. We also highly recommend that you take the option to sleep out on the roof of your room to fall asleep under a star-filled sky. It is these moments that are once-in-a-lifetime.
From Sossusvlei you will be flown by light aircraft to an airstrip in the Ongava Private Game Reserve that borders the Etosha National Park. Here you will stay at the luxurious and exclusive Ongava Tented Camp. Ongava is one of the finest wildlife areas in Namibia where guests can expect to see an array of wildlife including lion, black and white rhino, giraffe, elephant and large number of antelope species. Daily morning and afternoon game drives in open vehicles will take place both in Ongava and in the Etosha National Park. Being based in a private reserve also allows for activities not permitted in the national park such as tracking rhino on foot, night drives and nature walks around the camp. During your 'down' time you can relax by the pool or in one of the photographic hides or simply enjoy the views of a prolific waterhole from your walk-in tent.
After your memorable safari you will be taken the Ongava airstrip for your flight back to Windhoek to catch your international flight home.
