Explore Kenya

Situated within the protected and private Koiyaki wilderness area is Elephant Pepper Camp. Set in its own piece of wilderness and away from other camps, Elephant Pepper lies on the beautiful northern edge of the Masai Mara. The Camp brings its guests back to nature with no traffic and no permanent structures to spoil your view, just the sights and sounds of the African bushveld.

Elephant Pepper Camp offers 8 en-suite tents (4 doubles and 4 twin tents). The spacious canvas tents have an en suite dressing room, eco-friendly flush loos and safari showers, a private veranda and hammock. All overlook the savannah plains and offer a luxurious but authentic safari experience. However, game viewing can also be achieved at your leisure, especially from the comfort of the main area. Equipped with an inviting lounge, bar and dining area, guests can also expect the luxury of a viewing platform; ideal for some casual game watching in-between excursions.

Our hosts did not know we were on our honeymoon but upon mention, they immediately moved us into the honeymoon tent which was amazing. The tent was larger than our NYC apartment and had an amazing hammock right outside. The whole bush camp idea was really great. As the only guests at camp the three nights there, we ate meal after meal with our wonderful hosts, Patrick and Sophie who were so personable and knowledgeable about wildlife and generally life in the bush. We were able to see so much wild life behaviour at the Masai Mara, and every day brought a different scene. One of the nights was my birthday, and they really made it very special with a private dinner on our patio as well as a huge cake. The full day drive should have felt long, but was so exciting and seeing the wild cats and rangers (there were rangers tracking a celebrity cheetah!) was just an amazing experience all round.

Elephant Pepper was also lovely and at the same time very different....much more of a camping experience. I loved the fact that the animals were so close. Our first day we had some time to play croquet - which was great fun - but looking up to see zebra's close by and elephants at a distance was quite amazing. At night I woke to munching....close by - something eating grass and was told in the morning that the Cape Buffalo had come into camp in the night. Again we had a wonderful tour guide - Francis...but not quite as easy to understand as he was inclined to speak to us with the engine running and while looking straight ahead...He certainly knew his animals and was fascinating to talk on our walking safari....which was for us a highlight. The visit to the Massi village was also wonderful and the River Pride - I will never forget. All in all a fabulous experience...Barbara was just lovely too....made us all feel at home.
