Set on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills, in the 275,000 acres of the Mbirikani Group Ranch, ol Donyo Lodge is an excellent property for game viewing and getting back to nature. It is a place of timeless wild beauty presided over by the magnificent summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.Founded by Richard and Tara Bonham, in partnership with renowned filmmakers and conservationists, Dereck and Beverly Joubert, the lodge is a flagship for conservation in the area, with tourism to ol Donyo directly benefiting the local communities. It is here that some of Africa's last giant elephant bulls roam freely, the haunting calls of leopards interrupt the night and, thanks to conservation efforts, lion are being pulled back from the brink of annihilation.
The lodge offers guests the perfect base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. All of ol Donyo's villas and suites are individually styled and decorated, with interiors comfortable and sporting traditional African flair. All of the rooms have their own plunge pool and enjoy roof terraces where intimate "star beds" can be set up, allowing guests the thrill of sleeping in style under a canopy of endless stars. This is a very attractive lodge, one that never feels a chore to retire to of an evening - its inviting ambiance and strong service ensure a pleasant stay.
Activities from the lodge are extremely good; with a range of things on offer. Horse riding is a unique way to take in the beautiful scenery, as are hill and bush walks. Game drives are twice daily, while for children a special guide can be assigned to provide a number of fun activities, including a bush survival course. After a hard day exploring relaxing in the lodge pool is the only option.
A 1 hour flight from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to the lodge airfield followed by around a 30 minute transfer to the property.
Early morning and late afternoon/early evening game drives in a 4?4 open vehicle, guided bushwalks, bush breakfast and dinners, night drives, hiking, horse riding (for all guests, novice to professional), mountain biking, tracking, conservation and community out-reach programmes, wildlife viewing in a open air hide and sleep outs on private "star beds". Fly camping is available to guests who are staying a while longer. In-room massages can be arranged for a nominal extra.

Review of ol Donyo Lodge
Sean was an exceptional host! I loved being seated with the entire group at dinner!
I would give Ol Donyo more than 5/5 if I could! It was superb! We had our own driver/guide the whole time so we could plan what we wanted to do without being confined to set drive times. The rooms at the lodge are superb - huge living room, bedroom and bathroom with exquisite furnishings, our own outdoor plunge pool with views of the watering hole, and a star bed…
