Close to the wilderness yet close to the city, The Emakoko is a charming lodge with modern furnishings edged by traditional African influence. Bordering the Nairobi National Park and overlooking the Mbagathi River, the lodge is tucked away on the side of a valley all the while not far from Nairobi's two main airports and its city centre. It's a great place to stopover and ideal for anyone coming from a safari; the sudden change from wilderness to city can be a shock so having the national park so close is a great reintroduction to the urbanised world.
The 10 rooms at the property are very nice, with an inviting sense of authenticity pervaded by contemporary style and comfort. 5 of the rooms are set up high and overlook the valley while another 5 are set at the same level as the main area. The main hub of the lodge is open and airy with a swimming pool and delicious cocktails providing an opportunity to relax and unwind.
There is also a boutique on offer, home to a number of local crafts including the celebrated Africa Adorned, which are handmade pieces of jewellery made by communities in the Maasai Mara. From the hotel there is plenty to do and explore, a visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a must as is the Giraffe Centre.
