Governors' Camp
Africa’s first permanent tented camp, Governors’ Camp in Kenya’s Maasai Mara has remained on the original site since 1972. The camp has one of the best wildlife viewing locations in the Reserve and is nestled in a riverine forest along the banks of the Mara River. Some of the 25 tents have uninterrupted views over the Mara River and others have views across the sweeping Maasai Mara plains. From the camp, you will enjoy thrilling game drives, walking safaris, hot air balloon safaris and Maasai Cultural Visits.
The tents are in the classic safari style with a private veranda. They are all en-suite with shower, flush toilet and hot and cold running water. 8 of the tents are for families and there is 1 suite tent. The mess tent has a bar and deck overlooking the Mara River. There is also a dining tent, souvenir shop, reception and spa tent. Breakfast is a continental and full English buffet. Lunch is served as a buffet with fresh salads al fresco and dinner is à la carte in the dining tent.

Our tent on the river was wonderful and peaceful. The interaction with wildlife throughout the camp was spectacular. The crossing of the Mara River to the hot air balloon was exciting. The balloon ride was fun and informative, and the champagne breakfast was delicious.

Holiday to Governors' Camp
This was another lovely property - clean, with wonderful accommodations, and the general spaces (lounge, dining area) were very inviting. The staff was great - our waiter, Ricard, was so kind and helpful. Moses, our bartender, was awesome too - he always had our drinks ready as soon as we sat down.…

I still love Governors, the location and the people are fabulous. However, the food didn't live up to my last experience, but that could have been because both Linda and I had some stomach issues, and having more African spices and stews was too much for us. Governors did make us a special dinner o…
