Most Memorable Trip

The Wild Coast (Eastern Cape) road trip I did with my family and family friends in 2021, when country borders were still closed due to COVID travel restrictions, is a trip that stays with me. We more often than not travelled to Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe, so it was nice being tourists in our own country again (and being utterly dumfounded by its beauty).
We took to Coffee Bay, Morgan's Bay, Chintsa West and Addo; some of which are places I had seen as a little girl but was rediscovering with completely new eyes. The nostalgia was overwhelming in the best way. I have vivid memories of reading Roald Dahl's Matilda on the road, freshly caught mussels straight out of the pot, sleeping in rondavels with triple bunk beds (I fell off the top one). This time around, we made just as many memories. We braaied crayfish under the most beautiful sunset at White Clay and hiked a stunning coastal route over rolling green hills to the famous Hole in the Wall. At Yellow Sands, we stumbled upon what can only be described as a wonderfully unexpected community: retirees who had made the campsite their permanent home, complete with gardens and bird feeders around their caravan tents. All in all, this trip was a reminder that some of the world's most beautiful places are right on our doorsteps. And because of it, places a little closer to home have now made it on my travel list…
Top of My Bucket List

India and Morocco are at the top of my bucket list. I’m a big foodie, so Indian cuisine alone draws me in (I’d love to try the street food and learn more about traditional cooking methods), but I’m just as drawn to the richness and generosity of the culture, from the colourful block-printed fabrics to the intricate architecture. Morocco appeals to me for similar reasons: the spices, markets, and beautiful riads, as well as its fascinating blend of North African, Arab, French, and Spanish influences, shaped by centuries of trade, conquest, and cultural exchange. Both offer so much history and character, and I’d love to experience them.
