Céire Gibney

After graduating from Queens University in Belfast with a degree in psychology, Céire gave into her itchy feet and moved to Toronto, Canada. Working for a travel operator in Toronto awoke a passion inside Céire to discover new things and she explored the rest of Canada from her Toronto base.

Before moving back to Belfast, Céire travelled across Central America, visiting Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Belize, Mexico and even Cuba. Céire was delighted to join the Mahlatini team in 2019 as she has returned to the industry she loves while living in her home country.

Most Memorable Trip

It's hard to pick just one memory from my time in Central America. From sitting in natural hot springs in Costa Rica while monkeys swung through the trees above us, to off-the-grid camping in El Salvador. These were all highlights of my trip... oh and my bungee jump!

Top Of My Bucket-List

Africa is such a diverse and fascinating continent. I'm enjoying learning about different countries and their unique cultures and local heritages. I would love to meet the Maasai people and learn from them. I find them admirable and fascinating. It would be thrilling to see the famous big cats of the Maasai Mara too!

Favourite Safari Animal

"Impala, they're just so graceful. It's very hard to pick a favourite safari animal as it blows my mind sometimes that these fascinating creatures exist on our planet and that there is such an abundance of species."

"A Whisky Sour is always my go-to. Combine whiskey, freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and a dash of egg white - I always top mine off with a slice of fresh orange peel! The secret to a great Whisky Sour is getting the balance just right."

"If I had to pick just one it'd be the Serengeti Under Canvas mobile safari camp as it moves to follow the Wildebeest Migration. Only canvas separates guests from visiting wildlife... talk about an adrenaline rush!"

Top Travel Tip

Stay comfy! Bring comforts from home onto the plane such as cosy socks and a soft sweater. Try wearing loose-fitting clothes that are made using natural fabrics, such as cotton, as these will allow air and moisture to pass through. You might need to walk between boarding gates, so you want to wear something that you can move comfortably in, while also being able to sit for a few hours on the plane.

The Best Part Of My Job

Working for a company that is so passionate about conservation and sustainability. I enjoy contributing to our sustainability initiatives as we look for new ways to reduce office waste, switch to using more eco-friendly products and collaborate with like-minded suppliers. I was so excited when Mahlatini signed the Climate Action Pledge to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030.
