Kerry's gap year travels after graduating in Biochemistry interrupted her plans of becoming a scientist. She spent a year exploring India, Indonesia, New Zealand and Australia; but it was her extended time travelling through Southern Africa, and her very first safari experience, that changed her career trajectory.
Kerry has always had a love of wildlife, and to combine this with a role in travel, was the dream job description.
Kerry loves learning about the more remote destinations and new properties that Mahlatini offer. Sharing that passion with clients looking for amazing places in which to celebrate life's milestones is a genuine pleasure.
Undoubtedly, it would be my first game drive in Chobe National Park. The guide took us along the banks of the Chobe River and we were surrounded by huge herds of elephants and buffalo, countless numbers of giraffe and impala. I had never seen so many different animals interacting at one time, in their natural habitat. It was pretty amazing and will always be a special memory amongst my safari adventures.
I loved my time in Namibia, mainly due to the diversity within the one country. The scenery was breath-taking; sandboarding the dunes of the Namib desert was exhilarating; the game viewing at the waterholes of Etosha National Park was incredible. The remoteness of much of Namibia adds to its special qualities - for me it offers up the ultimate African roadtrip!
My dream is to stay at Bisate Lodge in Rwanda and go gorilla trekking. Ever since falling in love with the chimps when I trekked with them in Uganda, I have had my heart set on up close and personal encounters with mountain gorillas. I love the design of Bisate Lodge and how it's positioned to make the most of the stunning views of the forests below and volcanoes in the distance.
Giraffes are so beautiful and fascinating to watch, especially when they run, as it almost looks like they are moving in slow motion. In Etosha National Park, I witnessed a tower of giraffes protect their young from a hunting cheetah who was getting too close for comfort. It was incredible to see their innate parental instincts, and thankfully the cheetah eventually backed down!
