Monique Van EedenTravel Expert

Whilst her lifelong career in African tourism has seen Monique work in different parts of the continent, her home and heart has always been in Cape Town. Her first job was based at Cape Town International Airport; a role focused on welcoming and supporting first-time, and repeat visitors, on arrival to her beautiful home city. Her transition into luxury travel planning with a Botswana luxury lodge and tour operator was a natural next step.

During a 13 year journey with the company, Monique developed extensive knowledge and passion for the rest of Southern Africa and was promoted several times. In her managerial role, she trained and mentored a team of travel consultants, instilling her product knowledge and passion in the team, to deliver exceptional travel experiences and lasting memories for clients.

She is thrilled to bring her depth of experience to the Mahlatini team at this pivotal time in the company's history as it establishes its first permanent home in South Africa.

African Destination Specialisms

  • South Africa
  • Botswana
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe
  • Tanzania

Most Memorable Travel Experience

A sleep out on the bare Makgadikgadi Salt Pan in the Central Kalahari, Botswana - just me, a sleeping bag (no tent), great company and the most stunning sunset, starry sky and sunrise I have ever witnessed.

Travel Wish-List

Definitely East Africa, and specifically the Serengeti, Tanzania. I can't wait to witness the Great Migration and the vast plains of the region first hand. I've spent countless hours researching the tented camp options in the Northern Circuit and keep changing my mind as to which one tops my list - I guess, I'll have to do a whistlestop tour of them all!

Favourite Property

A 3 day journey from Cape Town to Pretoria on the exquisite Rovos Rail stands out as a uniquely special memory. The opulence on board, the exceptional food and the impeccable levels of service mean it lives up to its reputation as 'The Pride of Africa'.

Favourite safari animal

Leopard - the most elusive and stealthy creature in the wild. The least social but the most beautiful African cat. Clients often do not realize how lucky they are when they have a leopard sighting. You need to be in an excellent game area and have a fantastic guide to catch a glimpse of them.

Best #MahlatiniMoment

I received the warmest of welcomes when I joined the growing Mahlatini team in Cape Town. I knew from day one that I was part of something special and I'm really looking forward to the future.
