Dugong Beach Lodge

Dugong Beach Lodge is a beautiful property set on Mozambique's pretty south coast. Surrounded by the 30,000 hectares of the Vilanculos Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary, the lodge boasts a huge diversity of marine life right on its doorstep. There are only 12 chalets found at the lodge, styled with traditional decor and possessing a number of modern amenities to ensure your stay is a comfortable one. All of the air-conditioned chalets offer beachfront luxury with direct access to the beach and the chance to drink in the beautiful surrounds from a private relaxation deck. Rooms are sea-facing and feature inviting plunge pools.

The main guest area holds a number of facilities geared towards furthering relaxation with a bar and interflowing swimming pool, spectacular Indian Ocean views from the lounge and dining room and a small library in which to enjoy a good book. Guests can also expect internet access and a TV to stay connected with friends, family and the outside world.

Getting There

2 hour flight from Johannesburg to Vilanculos followed by a half an hour boat ride to Dugong Beach Lodge. Air transfers from Vilanculos to Dugong Beach Lodge airstrip take 10 minutes, and a further 25 minutes by road to the lodge.

The setting at Dugong Lodge was wonderful but the service and the food was appalling. We never saw a menu. On our first day we had chicken pie - I could have prepared that at home and it would have tasted better. Chicken pie was offered twice during the week we were there.
