Damara Mopane Lodge is an ideal base for exploring the Damaraland region, including visits to the Petrified Forest, the Vingerklip and the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. The lodge is situated east of the town of Khorixas and is a perfect stopover between the coastal town of Swakopmund and Etosha or the remote Kaokoland area.
Reminiscent of an ancient African kingdom in layout, the 55 air conditioned chalets are designed in a semi-circle, shaded under Mopane trees, with the central swimming pool area between them and the main lodge building. The chalets are delightfully furnished and come with their own private veranda and vegetable and herb garden, which provide much of the fresh produce for the delicious meals the lodge serves.
A highlight at the end of your day is to take a walk up the hill to the viewing platform for the stunning panoramic view of the Mopane forests glowing under the setting sun. It's a wonderful spot for savouring a sundowner drink and enjoying the views of the intricate lodge layout below. Then descend to the fireside for a delicious supper served by the lodge's typically warm and welcoming Damara people.
Located in Damaraland, approximately 4 hours drive from Windhoek.
The lodge is a good base for exploring many of the main tourist attractions in Damaraland such as the Petrified Forest, Vingerklip and the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein. Game drives to search for desert-adapted elephants can be arranged too as well as mountain Biking, walking trails and river excursions.
