Though this lodge is remote, it is well worth the journey as the rugged beauty of the landscape will leave you captivated. Fish River Lodge is the only lodge perched directly on the rim of the world's second largest canyon offering guests views to die for from sunrise to sunset. Situated within the privately owned reserve of The Canyon Nature Park, the setting is enhanced by 45,000ha of ancient kokerboom trees and 60km of river frontage. Here you can expect to spot kudu, zebra, oryx and baboon.
The lodge chalets are minimalist and beautiful with floor to ceiling windows and outdoor decks to maximise the beauty of the scenery. The outdoor decks are also big enough to sleep under the stars when the weather is warm enough. The rooms' furnishings are simple but comfortable with fans and outdoor showers overlooking a small rock garden with fantastic views. The main lodge serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and in the evening guests gather around the fire to chat about their day. There is charcoal lap pool in front of the indoor/outdoor bar area which overlooks the Canyon and is ideal for cooling off in on warmer days.
The lodge offers its own hiking packages for the Fish River Canyon lasting from 2 to 5 days. In addition to this there are scenic drives and sundowner trails where you can watch the sun set, whilst sipping a glass of champagne. The lodge's qualified guides will lead guests down into the heart of the Canyon where lunch will be served at a permanent waterhole on the Fish River. After a long hike, lodge's professional masseuse is available to sooth away the aches and pains.
The Fish River Lodge is on the western rim of the Fish River Canyon. Approximately 8 hour's drive from Windhoek and 7 hour's drive from Soussesvlei. Flight time from Windhoek is approximately 2.5 hours.
There are plenty of excellent walking and hiking opportunities available here both guided and self guided. You can also take trips by safari vehicle down into the canyon itself where you can take a swim in the river pools and enjoy a picnic lunch.
