Around 30km south of Sesriem, in the sparse and arid Namib Desert, Desert Homestead is found in a wide valley, flanked by the imposing Naukluft, Nubib and Tsaris mountains. The lodge is friendly, good-value and a great base from which to explore the dunes at Sossusvlei, in-spite of the fact it is further away from Sesriem than other lodges.
Traditional accommodation reflects the surrounding landscape, as 20 stone and thatch chalets are prepped and ready to deliver an authentic and certainly comfortable Namibian experience. The bathrooms contain a shower and flush toilet while the bedrooms provide cool white sheets and large beds, from which guests can enjoy wonderful desert views. A small veranda also affords guests excellent vistas of the lodge's beautiful setting.
Tranquility and remoteness pervades, with the sparse landscape empty aside from mountains and rocky outcrops and the stunning sunrises and sunsets found in this part of the world. A pool provides a welcome place to cool off, while dining is a charming affair with some of the produce taken from desert farms making it fresh and tasty. Sundowner game drives and horseriding are popular activities in the area, the latter offering guests the chance to camp for the night in the desert and sleep out under the stars.
Approximately 32km southeast of Sesriem. The gate to Sossusvlei and Sesriem are around 40 minutes' drive away.
Horseriding, sundowner game drives, guided walks to the Naukluft Mountains and Sossusvlei. Quadbiking, scenic flights and ballooning are on offer.
