Honeymoon to South Africa

Michael & Laura Plimsoll, 3rd January 2019
Overall Rating:

The entire holiday was seamless, from the collection of the car at Cape Town Airport to the check in at every hotel along the way. All arrangements had been made and were well communicated to both us and the the vendors, ensuring we felt warmly welcomed at every stop. Some more attention could be made to the travel pack sent out to guests - they got my name wrong... also, some information was missing / inconsistent and in the wrong order of the itinerary.

Countries Visited

South Africa

“Throughout the trip we felt safe and secure, and were warmly welcomed and well looked after everywhere we went. Staff were attentive, kind and keen to please. Of particular note, the Franschhoek Wine Tram was excellent and can not recommend it enough.”

Accommodation Visited

The Clarendon Bantry Bay

“We were warmly welcomed and well looked after throughout our stay.

There was a slight issue with the room, but this was due to the previous occupants late departure and taking the key with them. This meant the staff could not turn the room around when they would have liked, meaning we only got access at 1.30pm (having arrived at 9.30am). We do appreciate that check in was only later in the afternoon, so can not really complain.

Although not resident there long enough to experience all of the lovely facilities, both our dinner and breakfast we wonderful. For dinner, we had what felt like the entire place to ourselves, with lovely views over the sea.

The staff were keen to please and very attentive and the views are simply breathtaking.”

Angala Boutique Hotel and Guest House

“Simply the best hotel we have ever stayed at.

On arrival, our welcome pack and keys were waiting for us with a lovely glass of South African Sparkling Wine.

The room was well equipped, with its own garden, outdoor shower and beautiful views of the mountains and winelands.

Despite being just a B&B, lunch and dinner (on request) was exceptional. Some of the best meals we experienced on the trip.

We were also very fortunate to have, what felt like, the hotel to ourselves on our second day, with no one else around the natural or plunge pools and our choice of every sun lounger.

The General Manager was ever present, though never over bearing or intrusive. All staff knew who we were, even if they had never met us before, so not once were asked who we were, or what room it was. We felt very important.

We will certainly return very soon...”

The Marine

“The Marine is an old hotel that has been refurbished recently. Despite this, little has been done to maximise the sea-views or reduce noise of this old building.

We were warmly welcomed and shown to our Luxury room with fantastic sea views out of large, floor to ceiling windows. The problem with this though is that the Cliff Walk was right outside, meaning everyone from early morning joggers, ramblers, commuters etc could see into the room as clearly as we could see out.

For dinner, we were seated with a lovely view of the car park and the sound of the wine refrigerator in the back ground. It should be noted that only 2 tables have the ability to see the sea over dinner.

We were woken early (8.30am on a Thursday) in the morning to the sound of other guests walking up and down the corridor outside, as well as staff cleaning, vacuuming and shouting to one another. Sound really does travel in this property and do not think the other guests or staff were any noisier than other hotels.

Breakfast was unbearable, despite the fact the breakfast room was beautiful with wonderful sea views. All we could hear were the people upstairs walking around on the wooden floor boards; the staff clearing tables of cutlery; the kitchen washing up all the pots and pans and the frequent slamming of the door by staff and guests walking through to access their rooms and the pool. We had to ask the staff to be quiet on a couple of occasions, but to no avail. There is clearly no sound proofing or dampening in the room (curtains etc.) so will always be a nerve racking experience given the noise.

We discussed our plans, and realised there was nowhere comfortable to sit outside and relax. The pool was in a courtyard with no view of the sea, and the tables and chairs outside the front, with sea views, were wrought iron with no cushions and did not look comfortable at all.

In the end, we decided to leave a day early and check into the V&A at the Waterfront, which was lovely.”

Staff Review

“Nicki booked our whole itinerary, making great recommendations based on the requests we made. We could not have asked for more, being kept up to date and informed all the time.

I would not hesitate to recommend Mahlatini Luxury Travel to friends and family, knowing they would receive just as good a service and level of insight into South Africa. Laura and I look forward to our next trip with them!”
