Adventure Holiday to Namibia, Botswana & Zambia
Marc Thomas, 30th August 2019Excellent trip for discovering great landscapes and wilderness life. Each camp was different. Each song choral of these great african voices were always cheerful It was alaways nice talking and learning from the camp staff about their country and the wilderness. We have enjoyed each minute of our trip. Very profesional, kind and efficient staff. Efficient organization Regarding airlines however two bad scores : Mack Air in Botswana for the flight from Kwai river to Lynianti . I got the last single seat near the back door. I had no space at all for my legs . Only a kid can take such a seat. While flying back from Joburg to Roma , the Alitalia IT system refuesd to register my particulars on the flight from Roma to Joburg. For the system I had bever flewed from Roma to Joburg 3 weeks ago. It took them one hour and 30 minutes to issue a boarding pass after numerous phone calls from the desk to the hierarchy ! While in the plane all passengers at our row who were as ourselves couples were separated . It looks like the IT reservation data base of Alitalia has been corrupted.
Countries Visited
Namibia
“We enjoyed a lot Damaraland and Hoanib river / Skeleton coast .
Desert elephants are fascinating !
The quality of light in Namibia is special. Once arrived at Sossusflei you loose time reference . You just feel good.
The morning balloon trip is an unforgettable experience to enjoy the desert colors changing from soft pink to orange .”
South Africa
“No comment since we had only a stop at the Intercontinental hotel at Joburg.
Excellent choice to have chosen the Intercontinental for our flights transit evening .”
Botswana
“Huge beautiful land Huge herds of elephants and bufffalos
We had excellent game drives. The Moremi game reserve is impressive.”
Zambia
“Our period was not the best for seeing the falls because of the drought. However we enjoyed a lot our stay .
Great opportunity to be able to take pictures of the rhino in walking in the bush.
We tried the helicopter tour over the falls. Disappointing for the pictures because of the altitude of the flight, no value for money !
Nice talking with our guide Obby One a very knowledgeable man about wildlife , and a survivor to a lion attack.
The visit to a local village sponsored by African Bush Camp's foundation was also very instructive”
Accommodation Visited
Little Kulala
“Great hotel . Great architecture and design. Excellent service.
Sleeping on the roof looking at the night's star is real nice. Do not forget the duffle at 4 am !
The best wines list of all our trip. Enjoyed a lot the evening drinks at sunset in the desert. Great idea to have dinner service in the cellar of the hotel !”
Damaraland Camp
“We were the only guest of the camp . Very nice team. We were really at home !
A special mention for the cooking . Chef Elizabeth is a great outstanding cook. She is a real star.
We cannot forget too the bumpy rocky trails of the drives ; the amazing mountains' horizon and the morning fog going up from the valley !”
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
“The Hoanib river and Skeleton Coast desert are amazing.
For the camp itself; great comfort . However we believe that the modern inside design of the rooms was too neutral. It looks too much as a swedish interior design. To add a little touch of African art would make a big difference ! It should be easy since westerner modern art was inpred from african traditional art.
Good stay even if the camp life and menus were more impersonal than in the other camps.”
InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport
“So convenient while you are in flights transit !
Very good food even if the service was slow (over 30 minutes to wait for a drink in the evening or for breakfast's eggs.)
The waiters were very active. May be they are understaffed ?”
Khwai Lediba
“Great place for game drives. Tented rooms are very comfortable. Having hot and cold water is a luxury.
Excellent guide and staff service. Very good cooking. Well balanced menus.”
“Very different site from the other one. We were lucky to see around one hundred elephants and buffalos the afternoon before full moon . Spectacular !
The bucket shower is a must when you come from a country where you have not learned to sustainably save water !
Although the service was good and the staff always nice with the guests, the ambiance between the staff members was not as in the other camp where you do feel they were acting like a team.
We were not provided a form to assess the services.”
Thorntree River Lodge
“An outstanding hotel. If we are to come back to Livingstone in the future, we do not want to try another hotel.
Watching the river after the desert was exquisite.
Very nice staff. We will rememeber Zambian smiles!”
