Holiday to South Africa
Gareth Turner, 15th June 2022This was our second time in South Africa and yet again it was a fantastic experience. We enjoyed having time to explore Cape Town and its surrounds at a fairly leisurely pace, making the most of the stunning natural environment, as well as enjoying the excellent food and wine. Our first experience of the Greater Kruger was memorable: as well as the excitement of spotting the animals, including all of the big 5, we enjoyed having the opportunity to experience two contrasting lodges on different reserves, each with their own unique character. We look forward to visiting again.

The Cellars-Hohenort
“This was an excellent hotel. The location is within easy reach of both the Winelands, Kirstenbosch Gardens and central Cape Town. The property, set amongst well-maintained gardens is lovely, our room generous in size and offering plenty of privacy. The restaurant serves very good food and we enjoyed eating breakfast looking out on to Table Mountain. The staff were all friendly and made us feel welcome. We would undoubtedly stay here again.”
Jackalberry Lodge
“Probably the more rustic of the two lodges we stayed at on this holiday, Jackalberry nonetheless has much to recommend it. It has a homely feel, with the staff making you feel incredibly welcome and at ease. Thornybush Game Reserve itself offered up fantastic wildlife sightings; we particularly enjoyed seeing the Wild Dogs on this occasion. Our ranger Wes and tracker Elliot were both excellent, offering insights and local knowledge.”
Ulusaba Rock Lodge
“We really enjoyed our stay at Ulusaba. The location of the lodge on the cliff top offers spectacular views of the Sabi Sands reserve: it is possible to spot elephants without even leaving the property. The game drives provided plenty of memorable sightings, with the leopards probably claiming pride of place in this instance for us. The hospitality from all the lodge staff was of an excellent standard; the quality of food and drink was very high. Another property we would be happy to revisit.”
