holiday to Kenya
Susan Bakke, 21st October 2022This was my first visit to Kenya, or Africa for that matter. I traveled as a solo and was only able to do that as Claire of Mahlatini practically held my hand throughout the planning and during my 2-week visit. Incredible is the only word I have for this trip. Kenyan Airways Business Class was outstanding as far as roominess, cleanliness, food and the flight attendants. The properties I stayed were amazing and my guides and safari drives were outstanding. From my guides, I was able to learn much about the Maasai culture. A couple of Cheli & Peacock employees went above and beyond to assist me. Thank you!
Accommodation Visited
Tamarind Tree Hotel
“Great place to stay after a long flight. The restaurant on property was outstanding.”
Tortilis Camp
“This was my tented experience although I use the term "tent" loosely. Glamping hardly describes it. As all were, a beautiful location, clean, great game guide drives and friendly, helpful staff. The cook deserves a special shoutout! The food was so good and the desserts beautiful and delicious. The drought in Amboseli is especially bad and we witnessed many dead wildebeests and zebras that had died.”
Saruni Samburu
“It turns out I was in the Bridal Suite. (By myself at age 76). It was huge with gorgeous views and surrounded by large boulders. However, as I was at the very top of a very large hill, it was a lot of walking with a long path and lots of steps. It may have taken me a little longer to get up and down many times during the day, but it was certainly worth the workout my legs and heart got. I would urge anyone with mobility issues to choose their accommodations carefully. As always, the guides, staff and food were all top notch.”
Saruni Mara
“This one lived up to the high standards of the others. A beautiful cabin with a large bathroom nestled in the mountains. Again, a great guide and abundance of animals. Experienced an awe-inspiring sundowner. Wine and a sunset out in the savanna. A once in a lifetime experience for me. Again, the staff and food were outstanding. One night they had a special event to honor nine guides who had taken and passed a 2-week course on guided hiking in the area. They were all awarded certificates by the upper echelon of the company, and I was even presented with my own Maasai shuka.”
Four Points by Sheraton Nairobi Airport
“A beautiful hotel with two wonderful restaurants. I gravitated to the 5th floor restaurant/bar by the pool.”
Staff Review
“Having never been to Africa previously, I depended on Claire Picknell to fully plan which camps I would go to, how I would get there and how I would get back, as well as all internal flights. After all was planned, I decided to extend my trip by one day and Claire happily and perfectly rearranged flights and hotels to accommodate this whim. She also arranged to have a guide meet me at the Nairobi airport, both coming and going, to help me navigate through customs and immigration. This was a huge help. I was so well taken care of the entire trip.
Thank you, Claire!
I highly recommend Claire Picknell.”
