Holiday to Botswana & Zambia

Ms Beverley Hilton, 1st October 2012
Overall Rating:

Highlight was white water river rafting on the Zambezi. Although perhaps people should be warned about the ascent/descent into the gorge....it's a killer. A herd of elephants with babies doing a river crossing on the Chobe river. Seeing a leopard at close quaters at Pom Pom. Enjoying a pink gin by the camp fire at Pom Pom and not realising a hippo had come to join us! The friendly staff and guides who willingly shared their knowledge and experience with us. Waking up in the middle of the night to hear ellies crashing about feet from the tent. The wonderful traditional singing and dancing at Chobe - made me a little emotional, but loved it! Watching hippo whilst enjoying a sundowner Driving out of Chobe game park and seeing 5 African Wild Dogs unexpectedly cross the main road. The bush walk at Gunns Camp

Countries Visited

Botswana

“Beautiful country, warm, friendly people. Felt very safe.
Pom Pom Camp”

Zambia

“Only there for two days but much the same as Zambia. Local people very friendly and seemed genuinely pleased to chat to us tourists.”

Accommodation Visited

The Royal Livingstone Hotel by Anantara

“Beautiful setting and great service.
Transfer to Chobe was delayed for about an hour but staff sorted it out very quickly.”

Chobe Safari Lodge

“Staff extremely helpful and organised - special thanks to Silelo(?)who went to great trouble to ensure all activities were organised seemlessly”

Pom Pom Camp

“Absolutely brilliant - can't fault it. Managers Balu and Tessa were friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff knowledgable and happy to help with anything.Guides were fantastic - it was a pleasure to spend time with them. Thanks to Shaku for spotting the hippo and looking after us, we felt very safe with them all.
Dietary requirements were well catered for”

Gunn's Camp

“Tents were a little on shabby side compared to Pom Pom.Guides were great.
Provision of vegetarian alternatives was disappointing = it was a case of not having the meat. Not much thought was given.
Felt as though the bar was being "monitored". At Pom Pom you were offered drinks and told to help yourself. At Gunns, it felt like a bit of an impostion to ask for another (this was not just our view as there several people making jokes about how the bar could be liberated!!
After being at Pom Pom first it has coloured our judgement slightly.”

Staff Review

“Brilliant. Second time of using Mahlatini and everything went to plan.”
