Honeymoon to Mauritius & South Africa

James and Abi Lovat, 27th August 2012
Overall Rating:

The Safari was exceptional, there were a number of new sightings on every single drive and the guides were very friendly and informative. There was a lovely personal touch about the lodge as there were so few guests and the private dinner, bath and sparkling wine was a lovely touch we hadn't expected. The food was also very nice. Mauritius was also really lovely - the advice we were given by the travel agent turned out to be invaluable - particularly in relation of where to stay on the island at that time of year. The service was also very attentive and friendly.

Countries Visited

Mauritius

“It was a really beautiful island and I am sure worth exploring - we had a friend who lived here who took us up to chamarel which had stunning views. We did choose to stay in the hotel and relax for most of it so I am sure we did not do the island justice!”

South Africa

“The safari was unbelievable - as said above - we had so many sightings and saw at least one of the big five on every drive. Based on what others have told us I am sure that going to a private reserve and small lodge was the right decision.”

Accommodation Visited

Monwana Game Lodge

“Monwana Lodge was sensational - the lodge itself had a fantastic setting with a lovely relaxing pool and gardens and a great view of the watering hole. The service was very personal and there were lots of lovely touches - a small drink at the end of the evening drive, the private dinner and romantic bath on the first night. The food was brilliant every night, particularly liked eating the local meat and also the evening fire and BBQ were lovely.”

LUX* Grand Gaube

“The hotel room and restaurants etc were all beautiful - it really was a lovely setting. The service was generally very good and very friendly and everyone organising activities etc were very helpful. The swimming pools were very nice - the setting of the 'quiet pool' was particularly nice. There were however a couple of 'niggles':
- we were disappointed to find that the 'gala dinner' is actually in the main restaurant but with the difference of a tablecloth unless you pay extra for it to be in a private location.
- as non-smokers it was a bit frustrating that there was no non-smoking area in the pool bar (the only after dinner entertainment area)
- on each night there were only two restaurants open - one of the five was permanently closed - assuming this was due to quiet season but it was slightly disappointing
- (to be expected but) the menu was a bit limited on the all inclusive menu

despite the above we would recommend the hotel as it was really stunning and there were some lovely little touches that added to our stay. The spa was very good and well worth a visit and the food in the buffet restaurant was very good and offered a different cuisine every night which made up for the lack of choice of restaurants.”

Staff Review

“Nikki was incredibly helpful in advising us of the nicer places to go - it was a particularly nice touch that she was able to tell us of her personal experience about the places we were looking at going. We had quite a strict budget for what we were looking for and Nikki put together several options that fit what we were looking for so we had a good level of choices - all of which fit what we were aiming for.”
