Holiday to Tanzania

Todd Graves, 22nd July 2025
Overall Rating:

Having never been to Africa, my wife and I put ourselves in the hands of Mahlatini. I am usually the one who coordinates our travel, but in this case, we wanted a trip put together for us. And it was amazing. We liked that all we had to do was get to the starting point of our journey, and all of our movements were taken care of from that point on. The camps were first-rate. All the guides and staff were passionate about their work, and while I am often a skeptic about companies' professed commitment to sustainability and community, in this case it was all real.

Accommodation Visited

Kahawa House

“This was a brief stopover to give us a chance to rest before the journey got underway. We were only there for about 10 hours, but the room was nice and the breakfast was great.”

Asilia Oliver's Camp

“This was our first camp and we loved it. The location is perfect, far from the safari traffic, closer to the main gate. There were times when we could not see any other vehicles. The tent was luxurious and the food was amazing. Really top notch.”

The Highlands Ngorongoro

“What a great way to see the crater. Our room was a geodesic dome perched on a high ridge. The altitude makes for cold nights, but the hot water bottles in bed and the wood-burning stove in our room made the dome toasty. This trip was for our 30th anniversary, and the staff serenaded us at dinner. It made my wife cry (in a good way, of course) and I may have choked up a bit, too.”

Asilia Sayari Camp

“This was the largest camp we stayed at in Tanzania and it was super luxurious. The location is great for seeing the Great Migration and the river crossing, and it's very close to the Kogotende airstrip. On our last night there, the team set up a "bush bar" and we had a toast while viewing the sunset. Like at all Asilia camps, the staff was fantastic.”

Asilia Rubondo Island Camp

“This is the perfect way to end a safari, as this camp is much more relaxed. You don't have to journey far to see the wildlife, and the cabins are on a secluded beach. Some of the wildlife viewing is by boat, which is very relaxing after days of safari vehicles on bumpy roads. My wife caught a Nile perch that was served for dinner the next night! And almost the entire staff trekked to the opposite side of the island to surprise us with an anniversary celebration on the water, with drinks and cake and song and dance.”

Staff Review

“We put ourselves in your hands and there is literally nothing we would have done differently.”
