Ishq Colombo
“This property was a dream, we had an atmosphere of a calm oasis in a busy city. The grounds were beautiful and the room comfortable. We managed to dine in a different part of the boutique hotel every night and breakfasts were taken slowly, with newspapers and slow chats with staff. For the few nights we stayed, we were on our own and the staff cared for us and our needs quietly and meticulously.”
Water Garden Sigiriya
“This was our forever hotel… if I had to stay there until I died, I would have been happy. We were in the bungalow furthest from the main building (with golf cart transport, if needed), which allowed us to enjoy the water and wildlife during our walks to meals. The food was good, as was the service. It was interesting to watch the crocodile that came to the waters edge at breakfast time to be fed. Our bungalow had a large bedroom and large lounge and a shaded seating area next to the plunge pool. It was spotlessly clean and well-maintained.”
Leopard Trails Yala National Park
“Lovely. The food was good, the accommodation was so comfortable, the private deck and plunge pool were just beautiful. No complaints at all. What was remarkable was that on our second night, there was a really bad thunderstorm at about 5pm, which brought down a very old and very large tree across the dining tent. Obviously, that night there was nothing they could do about a proper dinner service but within an hour we had our deck table laid for dinner and the waiters came round and served a tray of barbecued meats and vegetables. It was a magnificent response to an unforeseeable event. The next day by dinner, most of the tree was cleared - and this was a really big tree!”
Goatfell
“Another oasis, but this time cool and fresh. We had great walks around the tea plantations, went on some great trips (we took Goatfell’s included tea factory trip rather than the one provided as it gave us a chance to go for a longish drive in a tuc-tuc). All the staff were super friendly and kind and the food was the best of the whole trip. The hot water bottles were most welcome at night.”
The Wallawwa
“Beautiful hotel, which we enjoyed, but we had been spoiled with our previous accommodations and it did seem rather too “anonymous”. The accommodation was roomy and comfortable, the restaurant interesting due to the bugs and wildlife, the food was good. The hotel grounds were very humid - and we do humidity - and we spent much of our time in the a/c of our room.”

“We would not keep coming back to Mahlatini if it weren’t for Donna and her team; they are so helpful and seem at ease with catering to our eccentric demands. We feel very confident with what they do for us and safe when we are on the trips they arrange.
One other thing I would like to mention is the excellence of our land arrangements. From getting off the plane, to shedding a little tear when we left our guide/driver, it was perfect. Yata, our driver and guide was so caring, he messaged every morning with happy GIFs to make sure we were ok and knew our plans for the day. Always on time, always considerate and a very safe driver. Hats off to Yata!”
