Holiday to Kenya & South Africa

Melanie Rogers, 3rd November 2025
Overall Rating:

The trip was beyond expectations, with every detail considered and every escort on time and helpful, making travel so much easier! The recommended accommodations were better than I'd dreamed for the cost of the trip, and customer service was outstanding.

Accommodation Visited

Tamarind Tree Hotel

“Close to airport and fine for a one night stay before our real trip began. Clean, no issues.”

Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp

“The FOOD! The service! The experience! Accommodation was just lovely, well designed and appointed. Coffee delivered each morning. Our assistant for our stay there, "B", couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. And, the FOOD! Whether buffet or menu selections, this had the best food of any of our lodges of the whole trip. Safaris were great, not as animal populated as others, but the beautiful and the tiny Masai village we were taken to was a special event indeed. Only we two tourists were greeted by the village, sung to and danced for. Humble and beautiful people, it was an honour to be received by them. Zero sales pressure to buy their wares as well, but we were happy to buy and trade to help support this little community.”

Hemingways Ol Seki Mara

“Upon entering our "tent, we were blown away. Huge, beautifully designed and appointed, our bathroom even as a separate "water closet", a big walkthrough shower, a huge soaking tub plus an additional outdoor shower! Unlike the tented, zippered windows of Loisaba, this one had locking wood and glass bi-fold doors to keep the wildlife out at night! The place was so teeming with wildlife that an "armed" guard is required to escort you from your lodging to the dining room after dark. Animals are easily spotted from your private patio, and the night noises are wonderful. The buffet and special order meals were good, but we were spoiled by the chef at Elewana Loisaba already. The grounds were beautiful to walk with 2 pools and garden levels to explore. The service was very good, and our safari guides the best! We quickly saw all big 5 as well as cheetahs, hyenas, jackals and stinky hippos. The sundowner drinks and snacks were always a special moment, whether served picnic style or in the Jeep admiring the lions lounging a few feet away. A horseback safari was a special treat (included in our package) and most memorable was the hippo that launched itself from a quiet pond as we rode past! Yes, the horses shied, but all stayed seated. We went to another village with a few other guests... the welcome not as spontaneous or elaborate as Loisaba, but we had another tour of their dung and mud housing and a larger "shopping" experience, which became rather pushy and loud as everyone tried to promote their wares. All in friendly fun, however!”

Kloof Street Hotel

“After a difficult day of travel from Kenya to Cape Town we landed in this well located spot. The room was clean and comfortable but very poorly designed for travellers. There was no drawers or a place to set anything down, and the bath room layout was just silly. No countertops, very splashy shower, no washcloths. It suited our purpose however, and was the budget accommodation we had requested. I became ill on our full day there, and it was quite conveniently located to an emergency clinic. I was quickly admitted to a nice ER partition, given an IV, tested and treated. It was a most positive experience of SA medical care. The bill was itemized, concise and very inexpensive by American standards. I was up and running again by the next day. We took advantage of the hop-on hop-off Red bus during this abbreviated downtown stay, and thus feel we got a good feel for the city and got in some shopping. The hotel had a nice breakfast offering as well. Overall, we give Cape Town an A+. It's a phenomenal city.”

The Cellars-Hohenort

“This was our "White Lotus" hotel experience. The service, the grace, the gardens, the views, the food were all just amazing. We dined in for 3 nights and went to the famous "La Colombe" restaurant nearby for a world class 12 course tasting menu on another night. The hotel is minutes from the oldest Constantia wineries and located in a dream of countryside. The botanical garden is close by as well... and the breakfasts were the best of the trip (and they were ALL good!)
On top of it all every day was sunny, breezy and warm. Simply Heaven!”

Staff Review

“She put this completely bespoke trip together based on our wish list and budget. Thorough, friendly and most professional throughout!”
