holiday to Zambia

Bill Passmore, 9th June 2013
Overall Rating:

Shiwas Ng'Andu was a very special experience and and a very special place: certainly not something you would expect in the "wilds" of Africa. Jo & Charlie Harvey and all the staff at Shiwa do a fantastic job.The setting is magnificent and when you hear the history of the place straight from the horse's mouth (Jo & Charlie) you can only be gob-smacked Both Tena Tena and Chongwe were great but in their own way different. The sheer volume of game at Tena Tena was extraordinary especially antelope and hippo not to mention running into a herd (wrong collective I know - should it be "tower"?)of about 20 Giraffe and having a lion come to visit us in camp on our first night was to say the least "exciting". In Chongwe you felt at times that you were going to see nothing and suddnly you "ran into" a couple of lions and then a herd of about 200 Buffalo. Fishing for bream in Chongwe was interesting but not very productive but the canoe trip on my last evening was great. But I made the mistake of coming back to camp by boat as two other canoeists who came by jeep came upon a leopard. The camp Elephant also came to visit and did me the honour of doing his/her "business" right beside my tent!

Countries Visited

Zambia

“From very limited experience seems to be a very pleasant and relaxed Country with helpful, courteous and intelligent people. The guides at the camps were outstanding. Lusaka Airport and the Zambian national (?) airline "Proflight" can best be described as "An African Experience" when it comes to passenger information/relations. However their aircraft are new so no complaints in this respect”
