Holiday to Tanzania

Elspeth & Peter Eggleton, 24th October 2013
Overall Rating:

We have had the most amazing holiday in Tanzania with our ten year-old grand-daughter, Emily which exactly met our wish for a mixture of wild-life, culture and contact with a school. From the moment we left the UK, all the arrangements worked perfectly and we never had to worry about our travel or itininary. John from Predator Safari was a wonderful guide who engaged with Emily on all the trips including hunting with the Hazabe tribe - he took her seriously whenever she spotted an animal and explained to her about what was happening. A huge thank you to Mahlatini for making it all possible.

Countries Visited

Tanzania

“We spent six years doing voluntary work in Northern Uganda so we are very used to East Africa and its difficulties however what a different country Tanzania is... very impressive. One people, one language, no tribal differences and guess what great toilets!!!! Everywhere we went there were good, clean toilets - just what a tourist used to creature comforts dream of in Africa. The wildlife was suberb, the scenary magnificant and the people generous and welcoming.

It is great to see an african country not overtly dependent on outside aid. We would definitely recommend Tanzania as a place to go with a family”

Accommodation Visited

“Mount Meru Game Lodge was our request because of the attraction of our grand-daughter waking up to see zebra and ostrich wandering about outside her bedroom. The staff at the lodge were all very pleasant and helpful although it is fair to say that the standard of the accommodation was pretty basic and very small for three people. Having said that it was only one night and our choice so no complaints and it fulfilled the purpose of introducing Emily to wildlife - her comment in the morning was 'Wow, awesome!'!”

Gibb's Farm

“Gibb's Farm was totalling amazing - what a wonderful recommendation from Claire at Mahlatini!

The Farm is located up on the hill-side overlooking the coffee plantations and their organic market garden. We had a wonderful cottage which was huge and superbly appointed - it was difficult to remember that we were in rural East Africa! The attention to detail was incredible, from the tea, coffee and hot chocolate on all our wake-up calls to the beautiful meals every detail was perfect. Emily got to milk the cows, roast coffee, talk to the local artist and make bread - what a treat. We also got to visit the local Tloma Primary School and the wood-carvers on the road up to the Farm.

Meals were superb and definitely up to European standards and both the managers were great hosts.”

Staff Review

“We have had an excellent level of service from Claire and the Mahlatini team. Their advice has been accurate and helpful in the run-up to the trip particularly over reassurances for our grand-daughter.

Claire's experience and knowledge of the different lodges and places to visit was superb and led us to stay at Gibbs Farm for the duration of our stay in Tanzania. This was absolutely the right decision as it enabled us to be within easy reach of Tangirye, Ngorongoro Crate and Lake Eyasi National Parks without the added difficulty of packing and unpacking - something which other passing through people envied.”
