Family holiday to Botswana, Zambia & South Africa

Louise Capp, 5th April 2014
Overall Rating:

Highlights were the Okavango Delta - surprise lunches and dinners set up in the bush and all the wonderful game drives; the river cruise in the Chobe National Park - we got so close to the animals on the river banks; the Victoria Falls

Countries Visited

Botswana

“We all fell in love with Botswana. Its a beautiful country. The people are lovely and I felt very safe and secure. Highlights were a surprise dinner in the bush at Nxabega and seeing the leopard and four cubs sitting on a rock ledge at Xudum followed by lunch in the bush. A truly amazing day! At Xudum the staff also run bubble baths for the adults along with champagne which was really special.”

South Africa

“Stunning views, body surfing in the ocean, snorkeling.”

Zambia

“Highlight was definitely the Victoria Falls. Well worth the trip to Zambia.”

Accommodation Visited

Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp

“The staff at Nxabega were incredibly friendly and really wanted us to have the best experience possible. They couldn't do enough for us. We also had an amazing guide called KD. He was a great guy and very knowledgeable. It was good to have a pool for the kids and the game drives were well beyond anything we expected. The morning drives lasted up to 5 hours. The food and hospitality were also very good.”

“The Xudum Lodge was definitely more luxurious than Nxabega but in some ways I preferred Nxabega Lodge and, whilst the staff were very friendly, I felt the staff at Nxabega were friendlier. Not to distract from the good food at Nxabega but the food at Xudum was more gourmet. They had the most amazing chef at Xudum. It wasn't as easy to be together as a group in Xudum as each room was very much self contained but I'm sure some members of the group enjoyed a bit of privacy and time away from everyone.”

“The rooms were adequate. The double beds were small. Luckily we had two rooms which meant Eric and I had a bed each to ourselves. The pool was great for the kids and the breakfast buffet had lots on offer. Had we not had younger children with us I would have definitely preferred to stay next door at the Royal Livingstone. Room service was very poor. I ordered some bottled water and it took over an hour to be delivered. I was asleep by the time they knocked on the door.”

Muchenje Safari Lodge

“The rooms were lovely but the food was definitely not up to the standard of Xudum or Nxabega. The staff were very friendly and the river cruise was absolutely amazing. We got so close to the animals along the riverbank.”

“Rooms were excellent and the breakfast buffet was very good. Perfect for a quick stop over.”

Thonga Beach Lodge

“A lovely lodge with very friendly staff. A good combination of activities and the chance to relax for those who wanted to. The food was very good.”

Staff Review

“Pretty much every detail was covered. Nikki and her team did a brilliant job. A minor detail which would have been nice to know beforehand - I had wrongly assumed I could pay for the Zambian visas on my credit card. It was clearly written in our documentation that we needed cash so totally my fault. We managed to rustle up enough dollars but was told at the border that had our children been traveling on their American or Australian passports they didn't need a visa. Also the dual visa cost 80 dollars not 50 dollars.”
