Overall Impressions

It was the greatest trip of our lives. All the accommodations were perfect and the trip included a great mix of adventure, fine dining, and relaxation. It was everything we could've asked for and more for our honeymoon.

Countries Visited

South Africa

South Africa truly is a special place. No where else in the world can you experience a vibrant city against a beautiful mountain backdrop, an incredibly scenic wine country, amazing food, AND experience the rush of safari game drives all in the same country.

Accommodation Visited

POD Boutique Hotel

POD completely exceeded our expectations. The room was very modern and spacious with a fantastic view of Camps Bay. Waking up the first morning to the waves crashing on the beach was truly an invigorating start to our honeymoon. The breakfast each morning was exceptional and the staff could not have been more helpful in their recommendations for restaurants and adventures. They were all so friendly and took the time to make sure our experience was unforgettable.

Babylonstoren Farm Hotel

Such an awesome and unique place to stay. The massive farm was as impressive and beautiful as the landscape and mountains that it resides. It was really cool to have access to our own mountain bikes to explore the grounds. The rooms were clean and luxurious and having the option to make a fire in the fireplace each night just added to how romantic Babylonstoren is. There were so many activities to take advantage of that we wish we stayed longer. From farm tours, to bread making classes, to wine tastings, Babylonstoren has something for everyone!

The Last Word Franschhoek

While we only stayed here for one night, it was the perfect location for us to explore everything that Franschhoek has to offer. Our room was huge and the bed was very comfortable. The staff even surprised us with a bottle of champagne and dessert in our room following our dinner down the road. We had to leave early the next morning and could not try their complimentary breakfast, but the staff prepared to-go bags for us to take to the airport which was much appreciated.

Dulini River Lodge

Dulini River Lodge was the single greatest hospitality experience of our lives. From the moment we stepped foot at the lodge to the reluctant goodbyes, Dulini's attention to detail and friendly staff were second to none. Our ranger, Fred, and tracker, May, were not only extremely knowledgeable in every detail of the African bush, but their great sense of humor and friendliness was what made our experience so memorable and fun. The rooms were spectacular with luxurious features like heated towel racks and floors, a heated plunge pool, stocked mini-fridge, comfy beds, and a spectacular view of the Sand River. The food was some of the best we've had throughout South Africa and each night held a different surprise including a traditional South African braai, dinner with another family we immediately connected with, and a romantic meal in our room on our final night. The attention to detail at Dulini is truly amazing. We were greeted at the lodge after each game drive with a warm towel and given a warm water bottle before each morning drive, things that are quite minor yet so very appreciated. And last, but certainly not least, the quality, quantity, and diversity of the wildlife in their accessible land within the Sabi Sands reserve was astonishing. That area of the bush is a treasure trove of safari riches as we saw tons of leopards, rhino, elephants, wild dogs, hyenas, giraffes, lions, and even the elusive cheetah! We're so thankful to the whole staff at Dulini for making our honeymoon so spectacular.

Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge

Chitwa just couldn't live up to our experience at Dulini. The rooms were not as nice, the staff wasn't as friendly, our ranger wasn't personable, the attention to detail wasn't there, the wildlife was largely non-existent with the exception of a few of the game drives. We had a bad experience with one of the bartenders that insisted on serving us LITs rather than the wine or gin and tonics that we ordered. It may have been better to have visited Chitwa before Dulini given that Dulini simply blew us away making it a tough act to follow!

Staff Review

Stuart was incredible to work with. The whole trip was perfectly planned and we had no issues with any of the car transfers and the assistance through the airports was much appreciated. We will definitely be recommending Mahlatini to all of jealous friends that had to watch our honeymoon from a distance through social media. Thank you so much for all your assistance and your timely responses to all of questions!
