Wonderful variety of special experiences, delicious and plentiful food, and memories for the kids to treasure (and us!). We also learned lots about the culture and wildlife of South Africa. Wonderful!
Beautiful sunsets, exciting wildlife, excellent food, friendly people, exceptional service, interesting culture.
A wonderful welcome, happy staff, supremely well organised and providing such exciting animal experiences. The accommodation was wonderful and the food was great too. The kids would have liked the pool to be heated, but it wasn't a big deal! I would have liked a full-length mirror in the bedroom, but again, not a big priority!
We especially loved the walking safari and the safari drives.
I'd like to give it 6! Amazing accommodation, such wonderful staff, rich in culture and the opportunity to learn about the local community. We had an amazing few trips out snorkelling, whale-watching and playing with the dolphins. We got to know the staff a little better here than the other places, and they bent over backwards to accommodate our every need. The food was incredible and the location was to die for.
I would say that Mahlatini should warn customers that the beach is not ideal for swimming unsupervised as the sea is very rough and the tides are too strong most of the day.
We were so happy with our holiday and with all the communications with Caroline. She put together an amazing package for us, which met or exceeded all our expectations! The extra touches, such as help navigating our outbound transfer through Jo-burg, were really welcome. The choices of accommodation suited us perfectly, and we really benefitted from her knowledge of the product. She was always polite and patient, communicated well and made herself available for us. Thank you!
I do, sadly, have one complaint about the provided itinerary information, which I hope will be corrected asap for future customers visiting the Thonga Beach Lodge without a driver. Our printed travel information (maps and directions supplied by Google & printed in our personalised booklet) contained inaccurate information which added well over an hour to our transfer from Rhino Ridge to Thonga, caused us a considerable amount of stress and almost led us to become stranded as it took us on a sandy road unsuitable for the 2-wheel drive car we had been provided with. It was only our intuition that made us turn back & phone Isibindi directly, who thankfully supplied us with accurate directions by phone. Please ensure this is corrected for future customers - the directions given to me by the lodge were entirely different to those suppied by Mahlatini (and the GPS on the car) which were only suitable for 4x4s and didn't account for the booked 4x4 transfer to the lodge. The supplied itinerary also had the lodge itself as its end point, rather than the pick-up destination for the arranged transfer (a Cashew Nut factory), and none of the transfer information had been made at all clear. A shame that we had this one issue with an otherwise perfect holiday.
