Had a wonderful holiday, in amazing surroundings. The close up encounters with animals were the highlights and the fantastic staff in all locations enhanced our enjoyment.
Enjoyed the Masai Mara, with the friendly, knowledgeable Kenyan guides and staff. The location was relaxed and felt safe. Nairobi was quite poor and the high security at the hotel and shopping was re-assuring, but also slightly disconcerting.
Mauritius has beautiful beaches and friendly people. We hired a car and felt totally safe and happy, driving ourselves around the island. If we hadn't done so, we'd have found the location of Heritage Le Telfair a bit isolated and, "cocooned".
Extremely well cared for, and looked after by all the staff. The tents were luxurious and well equipped. It was amazing, hearing the noises of the animals at night, which gave you a real connection with your surroundings. The small number of guests, enabled you to interact easily with other people.
Wow! What can I say? It lived up to and exceeded our expectations. The staff were so cheerful and went out of their way to ensure that we had great interaction with the giraffes and maximise photo opportunities. (We also especially liked how they had a collective tip box, as the hassle of tipping, of how much/who/when detracts from our holiday enjoyment.)
This was probably the most luxurious accommodation we stayed in. The weather wasn't great while we were there, and we spent our day going to the shops to buy me some clothes. Hemmingways was therefore really just used as somewhere to sleep, before moving on to our next location.
This was the only place where we were, "Required" to produce the travel agent's voucher, on arrival. We'd had a stressful day, and it being necessary to give them the voucher at this exact time, seemed over zealous on their part. The documentation we were issued by the hotel, then showed the wrong meal plan, which just left us feeling totally fed up and exhausted as we were shown to our room.
Things were quickly resolved the next morning and all the staff did their utmost to make our stay enjoyable.
There was no hotel folder in the room, (the information that was given, was available on the tv) but there was no map of the whole site. It took us quite a time to locate some of the hotel's facilities. We only found the heated pool, the day before we left. A map, a sign to show, "The Boathouse" as well as clearer information about booking activities would be beneficial.
From then on, our stay was faultless. The quality of accommodation, service and maintenance of both the rooms and grounds were excellent. All members of staff always greeted you with smile and a friendly comment. There was a great selection of restaurants, with high quality food and service. The cost of drinks was exorbitant however (drinks were not included in our meal plan,) three or four times the price in the supermarket, which left you feeling, a bit, "Ripped off".
The staff at Mahlatini have been be without fault, since we first contacted them, to make initial enquiries about booking our holiday. We would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to book a safari. The loss of our bag, by Air France, at the start of our trip, obviously marred the enjoyment of our time and focussed our attentions in the wrong direction. Once we contacted Mahlatini, about the missing luggage, they have done their utmost to help us, and are continuing to do so on our return, with our claim for expenses occurred and the lost bag.
