Our honeymoon was absolutely magical! The hotels were incredible, Shanti Maurice was an absolute highlight! The hotel was relatively quiet so we had impeccable service from everyone! Lux Grand Gaube was a much busier hotel with lots of honeymooners so felt somewhat less important but overall it was still an amazing experience!
Beautiful country! We experienced both the south and the north. The south was very luscious and green and we played a round of golf up in the mountains which was amazing! The north was slightly more built up but the beaches there were amazing and the weather was actually a bit better as well, less clouds and a couple of degrees warmer.
We felt like VIPs from the second we entered Shanti Maurice. Our villa was amazing and we had a bottle of bubbles, fruit and chocolate waiting for us. The food was out of this world! Our favourite meal of the whole holiday was at Kaze Mama, the curries were the best we'd had! The spa was amazing and we then had sushi and aperol spritz lying by the spa pool completely by ourselves! The floating breakfast on our last day was the highlight of our trip, along with the feet in the sands dinner, which we also had completely to ourselves so felt so unbelievably romantic! My husband also really appreciated them playing the Manchester United game in their outdoor cinema where the guys in the Rum Shed delivered the most amazing cocktails straight to us! The only critical feedback I'd give is that they state they have 5 or 6 restaurants when actually I'd say they have 3. Kaze Mama is not open everyday, and then you can either sit in their main restaurant or on the beach (feet in the sands). They have different menus but you still sit in the same place for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Amazing hotel with incredible architecture and you can tell they have really focused on the interior design! Lots of people checking in and out so you are not welcomed in a very personal way. The room was lovely but not very private. We had a big tub on our terrace but lots of people can see you. The beach was amazing and I went scuba diving which was incredible as they have the boats right on the beach so no need to drive anywhere. Food was delicious as well but as there are so many people you have to book where you want to eat dinner for each night you are there as soon as you check in, and even then most are already booked up. Also 2 of the restaurants were closed when we were there which was a shame. The day on a private island was not what we expected, it was very busy and you were assigned sun beds, but overall it was a very fun day! The honeymoon extras here did not feel very special, our canapes were chicken nuggets and calamari, which we could of ordered ourselves, and the romantic dinner was in their buffet restaurant (you had to pay £100 if you wanted the dinner elsewhere, and we couldn't do that anyway as it rained on the evening we did ours). The adult pool by the Banyan tree was beautiful and the BB burgers there were absolutely delicious!
Caroline was fantastic! She planned the most amazing safari in Botswana and it's just such a shame that covid meant we couldn't do it. Mauritius was an amazing substitute though! She had originally said that Shanti Maurice and Grand Gaube were the best, and after lots of research, I came to the same conclusion! We loved every second of it and I just wish we could do it all over again tomorrow! Thank you Caroline!
